xfce4 panel settings when migrating from xubuntu [Solved]

#1 Post by jerryc »

Greetings,

I'm a long time xubuntu user about to migrate to mx. I love my xfce4 panel settings, and I'd love to bring them over with me.

Where to I find them on xubuntu and where do I put them on mx without having to reconfigure them all?

I use 2 panels, one on the left and one on top.

Thank you.

Hi, and welcome. If Xubuntu follows standard Xfce locations for settings (about which we know nothing) then the first thing I would think the first thing you would want to do is backup the entire hidden folder containing your Xfce config settings:

Code: Select all

~/.config
Then inside of that you can navigate to 1) /xfce4/panel, which contains the elements of your panel, and 2) /xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xsettings.xml, where the details are.

Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

Yep, that's where they were. Do I paste them into the same place on mx?

Thank you.

Yup, then log out and back in to see the effect. Make sure to back up the default ones that come with MX, in case something doesn't work.

If you open MX Tweak tool (within MX Tools) the first time
your panel settings a stored away into ~/.restore folder.
Within this .restore folder you'll find the backup
of the original .config-folders.
You could use the restore-facility within MX-Tools
to recreate your original panel settings if you
replace the .restore folder with your panel settings from Xubuntu.
Just in case you can go back to the default settings from MX-tweak tools.

Haven't installed yet, but I already like this forum better than ubuntu's.

Thanks.

Better way, thanks.

Just got my MX 17.1 DVD in the mail, installed it, and migrated my panels from xubuntu.

There was one more file that needed to be copied,

Code: Select all

/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-panel.xml
The method using the tweak tool was perfect.

Thanks again.
