login between xfce and kde

I installed kde-full using synaptic and would like to use either one
at login.

you can. lightdm has a session chooser in the upper right corner of the login screen.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

To help you in the future, it is always worth a look in the manual.

Section 6.3 has the information you needed.

I tried lightdm and couldnot get to switch to kde.

At the login screen, on the top-right are three icons. The one to the left of those three, that consists of a number of horizontal lines, is where you select the desktop you want to use for that session.

You should see three entries; Default, Xfce, and KDE.

If the KDE entry is not there, perhaps you haven't installed KDE properly yet?

i guess it will say plasma instead of Kde.

I don't get a login screen because when I originally installed MX 17.1,
I selected automatic login.
How do you change that to get a login screen?

I originally used Mepis for many , started
with Mepis 3.?

MX Tools > MX User Manager > Options tab. Select user's name. Check 'Require password to login'. Click Apply.
