Cannot Login to user account after snapshot crashed

#1 Post by Fornhamfred »

I am posting this from my root account as last night I ran mx snapshot and it crashed. I xkilled the programme and logged out as normal. Trying to login to the user account the system just cycled back to the login screen. Any help please.

did you run out of space on the home partition? that's kind of what it sounds like.

fromt he root account, try removing the /home/snapshot folder.

Did have rebooted the system?
Perhaps try to create another user running mx-user,
and check whether you can login with the new user?

Yes no trouble creating new user and logging in. I have a snapshot usb from a couple of weeks ago, is it worth just re-installing that? If I do that there is an option on the installer to change the language from US but I cannot get it to hold.

What "language from US " is that? ;)
I assume as this is a snappshot, the lang setting with the snappshot takes over.
Give us more details, to reduce guessing...

Default setting is US English I want UK English, but from your previous comment the language setting in the snapshot UK English should be fine . Do you think it is better to re-install or continue trying to solve the problem?

Not sure what's wrong with the other user account. I would probably use the new user,
and clean up / remove the other user and try to creat a snapshot again.
After such a crash it's not always easy to find the reason .

Thanks. Can I copy the home account from my user to the new user?

In theory yes. But You have to logg-in as another user to to this.
Just try it out,and see how it goes. Use MX User within MX tools, for that.
