Help installing to Mac 2007

#1 Post by Yellowhoney »

I have read through a few posts but I can't get my head around how to install MX 18.3 to a 2007 Imac 2007

I got my hands on a free iMac 2007, the HDD was removed, I brought and installed a new SSD ( i don't have any MAC os CD or USB stick to run mac os )
so I've been googling and found out these macs only have 32 bit EFI , some post have talked about rEFIed or rEFInd ,
I've tried using these IOS but didn't work https://mattgadient.com/2016/07/11/linu ... ment-52803

Do I need to have EXT4 or install anything else?

I don't have a clue how to get it running images/icons/smile/redface.gif

Could someone walk me through the steps?

What i have done:
Created Live USB manage to run and install

after a reboot, it only shows a gray folder with a question mark .

So you could boot with the MX 18.3 x64 Live iso from the Live USB. OK.
Could you also tell us how exactly you created the LiveUSB from
the MX 18.3 x64 iso.

Suggest we start here:
Reboot again with the LiveUSB, and do post "Quick System Info" from the running system.
.. and we go from there ... :snail:

For those of us unfamiliar with Macs, what's an IOS?

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
    #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

Hmm ..not sure how to read this...only swap partition is seen.
Suggest to reinstall. Do select autoinstall on the whole drive.
Do start the install in this way:

Code: Select all

sudo -E minstall 2>&1 | tee -a my_install.log
When installer finshes don't reboot yet, do post the my_install.log here.
Reboot with the LiveUSB and run again

Code: Select all

sudo lsblk -f

Code: Select all

sudo parted --list
and also

Code: Select all

sudo fdisk --list
If after reboot more partitions are seen, we might still need to fix
the 32bit UEFI with installing the 32bit grub-efi bootloader manually.
