I have this old IBM Thinkpad R60 I'm trying to install the 32bit MX Linux on and I'm quite sure Manjaro is giving me the issue! I had installed Manjaro on it and had forgotten about it. The Manjaro 32bit is complete trash and is so buggy (2018 version /reentry of their 32bit system) that I'm unable to utilize my USB ports.
My USB ports were working perfectly before I installed this crap.
Any idea how I can install MX Linux without a USB or get it working?

Re: Manjaro not letting me install any other OS
boot with the mx live usb, use Gparted to wipe out the entire drive and then format it to EXT4
Then you will leave hell and get to heaven ')

Re: Manjaro not letting me install any other OS
I think what Sparky means is that unless Manjaro somehow actually damaged your computer's USB controller, which I doubt, your USB ports should work fine with another OS or distro so you should be able to boot an MX Live USB.

According to the specs:

The R60 has an integrated DVD burner, so burn a dvd on another machine and then use it to install MX on the R60.

Re: Manjaro not letting me install any other OS
From what I've seen and read, the Manjaro 32bit is highly fickle, their 2018 version which was their subsequent re-entry into the 32bit market and it was awfully buggy, I can't update the system to see if that would fix the USB thing. I can't boot into a live medium via USB after I installed Manjaro 32bit and I've installed many OS'es via USB on this machine. It's like its stopping any installation media because whatever I click on boot startup it all goes to GRUB to load Manjaro, nothing else.
It's broken.j2mcgreg wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 11:55 am According to the specs:

Re: Manjaro not letting me install any other OS
It's quite possible that Manjaro got the usb hardware in a bad configuration. But that should go away once power is removed from all the chipset.
That means unplugging, removing the battery, holding the power button for 5 seconds.
Then insert the USB drive, reinstall the battery and try to boot.

Can you get into your BIOS? You may need to set your USB as first boot device.

Re: Manjaro not letting me install any other OS
Which should be F1 to enter BIOS setup, and F12 for a boot menu (in case the OP didn't know.)
I would first do as timkb4cq suggested though, just to be on the safe side. It wouldn't hurt anything.
I found an old Lenovo forum post from 2009 for an R40 laptop that suggests that you actually have to make the USB the first boot device in BIOS, selecting it in the F12 boot menu doesn't work:

Re: Manjaro not letting me install any other OS
I have several machines where I have to set the Hard Disk to the USB selection. The USB key must be inserted before power on, then enter the BIOS and change the first Hard Disk to boot to the USB key drive.
