Point taken.
Another question: what format does MX installer use (1) same format as existing partition such as reiser4, xfs, fat32, etc. or (2) ext4. If former, could it be that installer doesn't recognise Captain Brillo's partition format?

You should be able to run disk diagnostics from your BIOS... I highly recommend that to verify all your hardware is functioning correctly. It sounds like it may not be, as others have noted.

I've tested disks, RAM and all connections.
It must be something to do with the MB/CPU, and even if I knew which app to test with I doubt I could fix anything.
I've put Mint back on the box, and will get back to MX when I replace the board and chip.
