Thank you for posting this issue.
As you might have overwritten your MBR of the drive you are booting from, you do currently have no access
to the PloP boot manager.
I do see two options:
1 - Within GRUB shell at the "grub>" prompt you can find your installation drive
and also
2 - if you remember where you have placed the PloP boot loader plpbt.bin, we might boot into the plop-bootmanger,
to further boot from an attached MX LiveUSB stick .

Lets start with Option 1 for now:
At the "grub>" prompt do run this commands and write down the output ( and paste here back later)
these commands:

Code: Select all

echo $root

Code: Select all

echo $prefix

Code: Select all

ls

Code: Select all

ls ($root)/

Code: Select all

ls $prefix
Please note with grub-shell we have US-keyboard layout
SVG-US-keyboard https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:KB_U ... oAltGr.svg
PNG-US-keyboardhttps://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/ ... Gr.svg.png
Note: You can use the arrow key up and down left and right to navigate.

Was this installation performed with letting the installer take the whole drive to install on (auto-install entire disk)
or was "Custom install on existing partition" chosen?
The menu is not shown because the grub-menu file grub.cfg is missing, which would normally located here:

Code: Select all

$prefix/grub.cfg
Also, I'm a bit uncertain where this directroy "grubdev" comes from.

Code: Select all

$prefix/grubdev
What would these commands show:

Code: Select all

cat ($root)/etc/mx-version
and

Code: Select all

cat ($root)/etc/antix-version
Where exactly did you downloaded or got the ISO-installation file from?
What is the exact file name of the iso-file and would it possible for you to
run a checksum-verification of the downloaded ISO file, either md5sum or better sha256sum?
Finally, in case we need re-install, let's do check whether you have access to the usb-drive from within your grub-shell.
Please plugin the LiveUSB-stick and run again from the GRUB-shell this command:

Code: Select all

ls
:puppy:
EDIT: corrected some typo's

I'm not sure the installer actually finished. Some users reported a crash right as grub was installing. We did update the installer so I would try updating the mx-installer while running the live system and then install again.

1. Boot live system

2. Connect.to Internet

3. Open a terminal.

4. Run this to update the package source index

Code: Select all

sudo apt update
5. Run this to update the installer

Code: Select all

sudo apt install mx-installer
6. When that is done, try install again.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

1. Boot live system
Note : OP mentioned PloP Boot Manager for booting from USB because there is no CD/DVD available and the USB boot is not supported by BIOS. So it might now become a bit tricky to live boot again.

that's fine, but if the installer actually crashed, then there also is probably not a user account set up.

which I guess the OP can answer...was the OP offered to set up user accounts? If so, then the installer probably didn't crash.

... good idea ...
@avikulkarni would you also please run this command from the GRUB-shell
to check a user account was created:

Code: Select all

ls ($root)/home

Where exactly did you downloaded or got the ISO-installation file from?
I've downloaded form https://linuxtracker.org

What is the exact file name of the iso-file and would it possible for you to
file name is MX-18_386.iso

run a checksum-verification of the downloaded ISO file, either md5sum or better sha256sum?
don't know checksum-verification so I skip that

Code: Select all

ls ($root)/home
when I enter this command I got nothing

thank you for helping.

OK, looks like the installer crashed somehow. But we might still have a chance to login. In the GRUB-shell enter those lines:

Code: Select all

insmod gzio
insmod part_msdos
insmod ext2
linux /boot/vmlinuz-4.19.0-1-686-pae root=/dev/sda1 ro
initrd /boot/initrd.img-4.19.0-1-686-pae
boot
To avoid typo's when you type the last two long lines you can use tab-key auto-completion, e.g you type
linux /boot/vm
and now presss the tab-key to get
linux /boot/vmlinuz-4.19.0-1-686-pae

Please make sure you typed in all correctly. If that works and you get a login-screen, try user "root" to login with password "root" or with the password you gave, as user root still might have the default original password, and not the new one you gave, due to the crash of the installer. If it works you would need to create a new "normal" user and re-create the grub-menu:
To create normal user:
Open in the Menu MX-Tools -> User Manager : Create new user
To re-generate Grub-menu: Press F4 to open Terminal and enter this command

Code: Select all

update-grub
and now reboot with

Code: Select all

reboot
and login as normal user. If you still cannot boot try to check whether grub can detect the plugged-in USB-stick by running the from the grub-shell

Code: Select all

ls
if so we might be able to chainload-boot from the USB-stick.
Good luck.
