Installation issues and concerns

I am attempting to install MX Linux for the first time, over a previous Ubuntu installation. Up to this point i've had a few issues i'd like to report.
When I clicked the installer and chose to manually set up my partitions, gparted would hang forever scanning for devices. Meanwhile, the installer window would start glitching out.
It's a bit difficult to describe, but whatever window or section of a window was floating over the installer window would leave an imprint of itself inside the installer. so let's say my browser is completely covering the installer, what would happen when I move the browser is that a portion of what was being shown in the browser window would end up in the installer window.

after waiting some time it became clear to me that gparted was totally messed up, so I closed it and the installer, which was unusable at this point. When I tried to start it again, it said it was already running and that I would have to run pkill minstall, which I did.

After several attempts, I just decided i'd make my partitions using fdisk. I wiped the partition table on /dev/sda and created two new partitions: a 30GB one for root, and the rest of the 1TB disk for /home.
However, when writing the partitions, fdisk would lock up the terminal window, and could not be aborted even with ctrl+c. starting up another terminal and running lsblk would show that the partitions weren't there, but they did show when I ran it after rebooting the computer and restarting the live system.

So with my two partitons made, I started the installer again, opting to install on existing partitions. I selected which ones would be / and /home, and then clicked next. Now the installer is making the filesystems apparently, and is doing that window imprint thing as described above, and i'm just waiting and hoping that it resolves itself at some point.

I am using the 64-bit monthly ISO. Here's my inxi -F

The problem is almost certainly caused by the fact that your video card is poorly supported by the nouveau driver.
Using <F6> at the boot screen to select "Safe Video" should allow installation, after which you can install the proprietary nvidia driver using MX Tools

I gave this a try. The video is certainly in a lower quality now, but sadly it did not fix the issue with the installer. I have attached an image of what the effect looks like.

After thinking it over and trying a few more times, I think i'll be going with a different distribution. Hopefully the previous image and my inxi output will be useful to you in making MX Linux a more polished experience.

Even if it is just a driver issue?

its probably not a driver issue. morel likely a problem in the way the installer calls external applications.

I've run into this in the past with the installer, and I've just used gparted from the menu before launching the installer.

we will keep this in mind for the new unified antiX/mx installer currently being updated.

We need the process that starts (GParted) to block input to the installer because we need for the process to finish before we continue to do stuff in the installer. Probably the best choice in this case would be to completely hide the installer and display it again when you close GParted.

Owh.. glad that it's known where the issue is :)

A comment - this has been my standard procedure for years and I do not have installation problems.
