you could try the mx17 release, which has a different kernel. theming is a little different, but updating through the regular process will get you a mx17.1 after updates.
It's a good idea!

I am having some (other) problems with newer Kernels, ─ specially to browse Facebook "Pages" (not in FB's Feed, Profiles, Groups), ─ but this happens with all distros wit Kernels newer than 4.4.

Yes, my hardware (Intel 2008-11) claims for urgent replacement, although it works fine for all the rest, except FB "Pages".

I have an EeePC netbook that would install 17.1_i386.iso but would not boot,
while the 17.0 would install and boot, then update all, and the kernel.

Well, I have:

- installed Kernel 4.9.0-6 with Synaptic
- loaded MX Linux from Grub's Advanced options - Kernel 4.9.0-6
- after some hours using it, removed Kernel 4.15

Now, Chromium navigation is better (not perfect), even in Facebook "Pages".

Image

EDITED: - Now MX Linux with Plasma 5 KDE uses 362 MiB ~ 365 MiB at startup (Boot or Reboot), as I did'nt install most of PIM-Baloo-Akonadi:

Kernel 4.15

2018-06-12 - 21:50 - startup: 398 MiB RAM
2018-06-12 - 22:55 - startup: 394 MiB RAM
2018-06-14 - 09:06 - startup: 397 MiB RAM

Kernel 4.9

2018-06-15 - 14:39 - startup: 362 MiB RAM
2018-06-15 - 17:51 - startup: 364 MiB RAM
2018-06-16 - 08:39 - startup: 365 MiB RAM

For a new try:

- Photograph verbose Boot, showing any warning about Intel i915 and others
- Boot Menu ─ no change in Lang, Timezone; ─ and let F6 "Failsafe"?
- apt-get update, apt-get upgrade, ─ or "dist-upgrade"
- apt-get install mx-installer
- unmount all no-system (Live) partitions
- no Pendrive
- turn off Power savings
- no other app, except Terminal
- sudo -E /usr/sbin/minstall

Any sugestions?
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
please.

Just a small one: Could you do some partions checks within Gparted from
the booted live system at least on the partions you are going to use.
The partitons shown by fdisks seem to be done well.

Another tiny one: would you run GsmartControl to check the health
of the drive, just a small test-check of 2 minutes. Just to be sure.

And a tiny small "expert" advice for having many partions on a big drive:
It's advisable to leave between partions a small amount of something like 4MB empty space.
The reason some tools (not all!) just do have issues having no byte left between end/start
of partions when it comes to manipulate the partition start-record.
Even if this space sometimes is only used temporary. Yes I've had those issues.
You might have seen such partions-layouts, and might have wondered, why they do
have such spaces inbetween. Thats for MBR and GPT partion table layout.
Thanks.

I have done this 2nd test with the parameters:

- Boot Menu ─ no change in Lang, Timezone; ─ and left F6 "Failsafe"
- Photograph verbose Boot, showing any warning about Intel i915 and others
- checked Compositor: "None"
- turned off Power savings
- no Pendrive plugged, no Screenshot token, no FeatherPad opened
- GParted: formated and labeled Linux11, Home11, Swap11 ─ all on external SSD (sdd2, sdd6, sdd10)
- GParted: checked Linux11, Home11 (and Linux9)
- unmounted all partitions ─ Live MX Linux had mounted 4 or 5 partitions of external SSD (USB2)
- swapoff -a ─ and swapon only one Swap partition ─ not on SSD, but on some internal HDD
- apt-get update, and ─ apt-get dist-upgrade
- apt-get install mx-installer
- sudo -E /usr/sbin/minstall
+ MX Installer window: always on top

Boot verbose:

Installation in progress:

A strange thing:

After 1 hour 15 minutes:

Target and Home partitions (Linux11, Home11) weren't touched. They are empty.

EDITED: - I was forgotting this parameter:

+ MX Installer window: always on top

So, I think @fehlix is right, saying (below) that duplicated icon should be a hidden warning about destroy / erase data, waiting for Ok.

Indeed, I wanted not to cover ─ nor minimize ─ Installer window, fearing it could not refresh, anymore, and then I would no more interact with it.

Thank you very much for your patience and willing to test thing, I can provide a build of the installer that provides more debugging info -- it hasn't been tested a lot but it should provide some hints of what is going wrong.

Edit: here you go: https://github.com/MX-Linux/gazelle-ins ... _amd64.deb
install it with regular "dpkg -i mx-installer_18.6.3_amd64.deb" (still a good idea to run a full upgrade before) this build should spit more info on the terminal.

I do have the impression it got's stuck as the confirmation popup "OK for format and destroy"
is not shown during Byteria's installer session. The PopUp might just sit behind another open window.
@Byteria,
have a look at my window layout. The confirmation popup should be visible,
if you would have no other windows within the center of the desktop:

that's possible (likely, I see two icons for the installer), but why would that happen to him...

Either he manually copied onto desktop.
or
Byteria is using remaster.
With the remaster the skeleton and the leftover icon from
the desktop appears to have different names (or something like that),
so they appear twice.
I've had it a couple of times, but never bothered about the two installer icons.
Will look next time when I see it again, to find the reason.

I've gotten 2 instances running due to impatience, I suppose.
Until I learned to click the icon and wait a while.
That's probably why I prefer to start minstall from a terminal.

I meant two icons on the taskbar not on desktop. Richard, we added code that should not allow the installer to run twice...
