ok one more, then I need to call it a night. i was really hoping I had a simple answer, but I don't.

Code: Select all

ls -l /usr/sbin/
also, that is going to be a lot of output, so place it inside code blocks sot that it will be easier to read. this is easy with the forum "Full Editor" . Just select your text and hit the "code" button in the button bar above the entry screen.

I will say this though. commands the installer runs that from /bin or /usr/bin seem to work ok, but commands that run from /sbin or /usr/sbin seem to be suspect. No clue why. This is totally new to me.

Looking back through the thread, I see that you wanted to know how to check the md5 of the filesystem. there is a function in the custom boot menus for that.

I really appreciate the help. I wish we could get it futher along. but I think there is some important clues here to digest.

It asks if I want to reboot now (finished).

I'm not optimistic.

I am tired also. Your call.

damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.

but if you installed grub to root, you are going to need to tell something where to boot mx from first.

Tha is normally not a problem. I use Easy BCD.
How about I give it a shot in the morning & post then. I'll probably be fighting with this stuff along with fighting Mr Cpap all night as it is.

its also quite possible nothing will happen since grub failed to install, but you may not need it in your case if you have another bootloader somewhere.

yeah, no problem! thanks!

I rebooted and it came up with a "Grub" prompt. Will take a bit of work to see if I can fix it---tomorrow.

I'm in MX16.1 right now.

Thanks again, & goodnight.
