(SOLVED) Install issues with MX 17.1 final 64 bit

#1 Post by muskt » Wed Mar 14, 2018 6:08 pm

When I attempted to create a bootable USB drive via Windows 10, the install (this was RC1) locked up when attempting to install or to use GParted. I asked for assistance and was told to use the MX utilities. I did--successfully.
Now that 17.1 final is here, I figured I was clever enough to do it again. I did everything via MX17 64. Nothing on my machine has changed. I used the same USB drive. Every time I attempt the install it locks up at 3%. I must use the reset button to start over. I tried the install again, but used GParted first to set up a partition--It still locks up. I did confirm the md5, and have downloaded and burned 3 times--all while using MX17. While the machine is locked up, the cursor will work, FF works, Thunar works. Shutdown or restart does not work, and even using "pkill minstall" will not free up the installer or GParted.

What am I doing wrong? I did notice that the USB drive has a uefi (or whatever) partition on it now. I didn't notice that on the RC1, but it might have been there. My machine is an I7-930 with Asus P6X58D mobo with 18G ram & Nvidia graphics.

How long did you wait before killing the installer?

Are you preserving home?

Is home on the root partition?

has anything been removed from the target partititon? (mount from the liveUSB and you can check to see if anything has been deleted).

Longest was close to 10 minutes
Not preserving
Home on Root--Always have done this.
SDC4 is target--labeled rootMX17--live says not mounted--since I tried it a while ago, now nothing happens except for the swirling arrow. Several minutes have passed with no response from comp. I have not a clue how to check for deleted items.

deleted doesn't matter if you aren't preserving home.

try mounting the partition in thunar from a live USB and see if your previous install is still there.
