[Solved] Issue With Redshift Auto Startup

#1 Post by vamsi » Sat Dec 16, 2017 4:26 pm

I installed Redshift from command line using

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install redshift-gtk
it installed after installing i Loggedout and Logged in back then went to startup session and added this line in the command section

Code: Select all

redshift-gtk-l 16.190546:81.136154 -t 6500:3000
Everything is fine and i checked on that icon to autostart
But the program is not starting when i logged in again but when i search in whisker menu and when i opened it it is working fine

the entry in the file /home/pc/.config/autostart/redshift-gtk.desktop

Code: Select all

I think you need a space in your exec line.

Code: Select all

redshift-gtk -l 16.190546:81.136154 -t 6500:3000
instead of your

Code: Select all

redshift-gtk-l 16.190546:81.136154 -t 6500:3000
http://www.youtube.com/runwiththedolphin
lenovo ThinkPad T530 - MX-17
lenovo s21e & 100s - antiX-17, MX17(live-usb)
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Hello,
Just to share, for more options.
Redshift (or similar) is a nice tool, should be by default in modern distrib IMHO.

redshift-gtk

My ~/.config/redshift.conf (to create)

Code: Select all

;# https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/redshift
;#~/.config/redshift.conf

; Global settings for redshift
[redshift]
; Set the day and night screen temperatures (Neutral is 6500K)
temp-day=5700
temp-night=3500

; Enable/Disable a smooth transition between day and night
; 0 will cause a direct change from day to night screen temperature.
; 1 will gradually increase or decrease the screen temperature.
transition=1

; Set the screen brightness. Default is 1.0.
;brightness=0.9
; It is also possible to use different settings for day and night
; since version 1.8.
;brightness-day=0.7
;brightness-night=0.4
; Set the screen gamma (for all colors, or each color channel
; individually)
gamma=0.8
;gamma=0.8:0.7:0.8
; This can also be set individually for day and night since
; version 1.10.
;gamma-day=0.8:0.7:0.8
;gamma-night=0.6

; Set the location-provider: 'geoclue2' or 'manual'
; type 'redshift -l list' to see possible values.
; The location provider settings are in a different section.
location-provider=manual

; Set the adjustment-method: 'randr', 'vidmode'
; type 'redshift -m list' to see all possible values.
; 'randr' is the preferred method, 'vidmode' is an older API.
; but works in some cases when 'randr' does not.
; The adjustment method settings are in a different section.
adjustment-method=randr

; Configuration of the location-provider:
; type 'redshift -l PROVIDER:help' to see the settings.
; ex: 'redshift -l manual:help'
; Keep in mind that longitudes west of Greenwich (e.g. the Americas)
; are negative numbers.
[manual]
lat=48.85
lon=2.35

;# Latitude and longitude coordinates (ex for Paris) 48,8566 2,3522

; Configuration of the adjustment-method
; type 'redshift -m METHOD:help' to see the settings.
; ex: 'redshift -m randr:help'
; In this example, randr is configured to adjust screen 1.
; Note that the numbering starts from 0, so this is actually the
; second screen. If this option is not specified, Redshift will try
; to adjust _all_ screens.
[randr]
;screen=1

My ~/.config/redshift/hooks/brightness.sh (to create)

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
# https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/redshift
# ~/.config/redshift/hooks/brightness.sh

# Set brightness via xbrightness when redshift status changes

# Set brightness values for each status.
# Range from 1 to 100 is valid
brightness_day="100"
brightness_transition="50"
brightness_night="10"
# Set fade time for changes to one minute
fade_time=60000

case $1 in
	period-changed)
		case $3 in
			night)
				xbacklight -set $brightness_night -time $fade_time
				;;
			transition)
				xbacklight -set $brightness_transition -time $fade_time
				;;
			daytime)
				xbacklight -set $brightness_day -time $fade_time
				;;
		esac
		;;

We have a section in the Users Manual (3.3.6) on Monitor Adjustment. Given what is there already, would you suggest we add it (or replace something else with it)?
Production: 4.15.0-1-amd64, MX-17.1, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 8 GB, Kingston SSD 120 GB and WesternDigital 1TB
Testing: AAO 722: 4.15.0-1-386. MX-17.1, AMD C-60 APU, 4 GB

... Yes, right, I haven't seen it in the Users Manual (3.3.6).
(My suggestion is to try to protect by default our eyes, especially against blue light)
