@dolphin_oracle - thank you, will try that 'cause latest trial still did not do the trick.

Can i still install KDE after?
yes, but it will be relatively basic...won't look like adrian's kde-spin.

lenovo ThinkPad T530 - MX-17
lenovo s21e & 100s - antiX-17, MX17(live-usb)
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

This has got to be the weirdest happening to me.
Things were going smoother with 17.1 but install still did not cooperate.
Even shutdown command fails and freezes (again).

So, went over to download KDE Neon (hadn't tried it in about a year), burned to same usb, installed it over existing Q4OS KDE (which is a super distro! -a huge compliment from a guy who never really liked any KDE before) and now everything is peaches and cream!

I just can not wrap my head around this...
Distro: MX-18b1_x64

CPU: Dual core Intel i5-2520M.
Office: LibreOffice.

The only major change i can think of since last time MX was up and running, is the fact that the etnernet connection on laptop went bonkers.
The computer guy sold me a usb extension for it a week ago, so now it is plugged into a usb port.

Maybe the last windows update doesn't like MX?

did you used the same partition for neon as you tried for mx?
have you checked the hd/sd / ram for failure?
any specific info to your hardware, system info, partition layout etc. p.p.
does it run in LiveMODE with and without the usb-ethernet stick?
More info needed to get an idea.

"have you checked the hd/sd / ram for failure?"

Can you explain that in layman's terms?

Partition layout has been pretty the same for various distro tests (LinuxMint, Ubuntu, Manjaro etc.);
all on a single / partition (no swap since 8G of RAM are more than sufficient and has worked well so far).

Have not tried without usb-ethernet.
Latest and present test drive with Q4OS 3.4rc installed as usual on same usb drive used previously for MX is doing just fine.

"have you checked the hd/sd / ram for failure?"
hd/ssd-check: LiveUSB ->Start menu > System > GSmartControl and “Perform tests” on the drive.
ram-check: Stat Memory-Test from LiveUSB Start-Menu or Grub-menu

Ran GSmartControl no errors
https://snag.gy/9rfqG0.jpg

Did notice "networking disabled" and there was no way to edit connection.

Think this might be more of an issue than i need.

Just to prove how hard i've tried to figure out why things weren't working:
Downloaded again latest .iso
Burned it to another usb (a 32GB nextech 3.0) three times 'cause the device was never recognized at boot.
So, burned it again on previous Sandisk.
Install button does not respond and it won't even shutdown.

So, complicated as this is.
Let us just call it a day, let it rest a while.

Q4OS is working fine for now.

Update: with the kind and generous help from fehlix, was able to finally install MX via usb.
Was suggested to disconnect all un-necessary usb devices and it worked! :)

Can it be that a usb connector for multiple devices is getting too old?
