thanks. still very possibly the installer problem, I think. As I think the user may have tried to launch gparted from the menu after the installer issue and crash.

Unless it was on a fresh boot, in which case there is a wider issue. I'm unclear which way that went from the OP's post. But there is pretty much zero reason gparted shouldn't launch if the desktop launched, unless there is previously hung process such as may be left from the OP's installer issue.

The OP never said one way or the other whether running gparted from outside the installer prior to running the installer worked or not.

And the live media booted. Else we wouldn't have got far enough to launch the installer.

We need somebody with a GTX970 to try it.
Perhaps sunrat would oblige?

Obliging. ;)
I booted up a USB flash key with MX-17.1 April snapshot.
Pressed the F6 key and selected nomodeset. It booted fine to desktop.
Selected GParted from menu and was prompted for root password so entered "root".
Created a 20GB ext4 partition in unallocated space on sda and pressed Apply.
Partition was created.

I didn't proceed further as I already have MX installed.
Edit: I just read back and realised one if the reported issues was running GParted from the installer. I'll check back later and try to do that and do an actual install.
OP also reported problems using GParted from the live system, which I didn't have. I think his experience would have been much better if he had used nomodeset from the Safe Graphics boot option.

This is from the installed system with Nvidia driver installed -

thanks sunrat, that's pretty much what I was hoping.

We just pushed a change to the soon-to-come unified antiX/mx installer that hopefully will address this issue. Much thanks to the OP for bringing this one up, it was easy to miss!

It would be helpful to document which cards benefit from using nomodeset. Pascal and Maxwell? Only 2nd gen Maxwell?

I just searched looking for answer and found this from 3 years ago, so I guess it's GTX900 series and later:
https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page= ... S-Hardware
which is depressing as it infers that nouveau will never work with these cards. :(

I am new to antiX and MX Linux, and my experience was that:

1) In Live MX Linux 17.1 (MX-17.1_x64.iso - 13-Mar-2018, 09:55) the graphical installer presented this issue, even trying all F6 options.

2) With antiX 17.1 (Full ISO), the same graphical installer worked fine, and I got it installed.

I have reported some notes here (unhappily, in pt_BR):
https://byteria.blogspot.com/2018/05/an ... rning.html
but it may not be useful, as I don't know much about technical part of Linux.

3) Finally, with the same Live MX Linux 17.1 as before in item (1), I could install it using the cli-installer.

Now I am "building" the Plasma 5 KDE piece by piece -- without PIM-Baloo-Akonadi, as possible.

System infos - I think there are some errors, specially about Temp, Fan...

It's always advisable to do a system upgrade within the live-booted system before you run the mx/antix installer.
This might have already fixed the issue you have encountered.

You're right!

First, a correction: I had told "May ISO", but now I have seen that it was MX-17.1_x64.iso (13-Mar-2018, 09:55), so I edited my previous comment to correct this info.

So, you're more and more right. That ISO was older than I guessed before.

I have tryed Live options F6: Safe video, Failsafe, nomodeset and modesetting, — some of them, more than once.

Indeed, I didn't do 6+ or 8+ system upgrades, in all of these sessions, — but Screenshots and Mobile photos show that I did it, at least, once.

Forgive me please, I not fully undestand. Would you mind to explain the issue you had or is it now solved, after the upgrade? Not sure about bothe issue "F6 :Save video..." and "graphical installer presented this issue".
It's a bitt confusing for me. As not clear what issue you had... :alien:
