"stable" Chrome may segfault i386 Debian stable - e.g. MX14
Re: "stable" Chrome may segfault i386 Debian stable - e.g. M
Sorry I did not mean to imply it was an MX problem only that the latest version will not load on the only 32 bit OS I am running which is MX-14 and that the 64 bit version loads and works fine, including flash, in a 64 bit distro.

no worries richb, I was badly referencing an earlier post.richb wrote:Sorry I did not mean to imply it was an MX problem only that the latest version will not load on the only 32 bit OS I am running which is MX-14 and that the 64 bit version loads and works fine, including flash, in a 64 bit distro.

I also get a segfault when trying to start the latest 32bit version (38.0.2125.101-1) of google-chrome-stable.
The last version of google-chrome-stable (37.0.2062.120-1) from about a week ago starts okay.
You can downgrade back to the last version that worked if you still have a copy of it locally, either in a folder where you might have manually downloaded it, or in the /var/cache/apt/archives folder.
If you don't have a copy of it locally, you can do a 'inurl:/pool/main/g/google-chrome-stable/' search for it, for example I found a copy of it here: https://apt.cs.colorado.edu/ubuntu/pool ... me-stable/.
You'll need to install it with 'dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_37.0.2062.120-1_i386.deb', because gdebi won't let you do downgrades.

Re: "stable" Chrome may segfault i386 Debian stable - e.g. M
If you haven't run an "apt-get clean" you probably still have the older version in /var/cache/apt/archives
So running this command as root should solve the problem:

Re: "stable" Chrome may segfault i386 Debian stable - e.g. M
I guess I had a case of bad timing. About an hour or two before the original post in this thread, I ran "apt-get clean" to free up some space, so I had to do a search to find the last version that worked.Adrian wrote:If you haven't run an "apt-get clean" you probably still have the older version in /var/cache/apt/archives ...

... and this latest response from the google-chrome devs:
Good idea, considering there are millions of 32-bit Debian users out there. There's no need for any additional debugging data at this point. Thanks. We'll try to test more often with 32-bit Debian computer so this won't happen again.

I hope they make sure it's Debian "stable" they test, and not "testing" or sid.joany wrote:... and this latest response from the google-chrome devs:

They should also do some testing with 64-bit Debian "stable", it's pepperflash plugin has been broken for a while now with a GLIBC >= 2.14 issue.
Re: "stable" Chrome may segfault i386 Debian stable - e.g. M
Don't hold your breath--Google has been happy to have a broken 64-bit Google Earth 7 on Wheezy for many months now, while fully aware of the exact nature of the issue.
Re: "stable" Chrome may segfault i386 Debian stable - e.g. M
I have more faith. Google Chrome is not Google Earth, much more visibility and more crucial to them. Hope I am not proven wrong.
