Das Gregor does a "First Impressions" review of MX-14.

***edit*** talks quite a bit about the MX apps

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

DasGregor did take the time to see what MX-14 was all about. He did a good review that made sense.

I like the fact that he actually spent a good amount of time with it, though his *review* is pretty unbalanced IMHO.

For those that don't know, Dasgregor had a series of "First Impressions" at the rate of one distro per week. After a year, he swung back around and is mixing "First Impressions" with "Second Glances" where he revisits things. His other reviews are similar to the MX one, often showing a given distro and what modifications can be done, or what he has been doing with the distro. Sometimes they line up with the developers thinking, sometimes they don't. He started as a "Gentoo" channel.

I wouldn't say Das Gregor's review was unbalanced; he just emphasized what you can actually do with MX-14, which is the whole point, right? I found his review a refreshing change from other reviewers who concentrate on the look of the wallpaper and other superficial things. I really liked the fact that he found the MX Package Installer and explained how you can change window managers (AKA desktop environments). This is a very cool feature, which isn't immediately obvious and is seldom discussed in other reviews.

The only annoying thing was he kept referring to Meepis.
MX-14; 3.12-0.bpo.1-686-pae kernel using 4GB RAM
2.4GHz AMD Athlon 4600+
NVidia GeForce 6150 LE; 304.121 Display Driver
You didn't slow down because you're old; you're old because you slowed down.

I accept it in the spirit and guidelines given. Clearly it was not intended as critique in the sense of pointing out negatives as well as positives. It was a first look, " get a sense" of MX-14. And in that regard was very good.

I liked it except maybe he could take his face out of it. Or have his face in there only right at the beginning and right at the end, something like that. Sorry, DasGregor!

:)

OK, I added this to the review page. Pls check the quoted material--kind of hard to catch everything on the fly...
