Yes, we never could find the source code for the first metapackage installer, so Adrian wrote a new version from scratch.

Copy of my post at AntiX Forums @ freeforums.org.

My post is on A Compaq CQ 57 Laptop. Hence why I did not use HP cheat code even though inxi says Hewlitt Packard.

Code: Select all

demo@mx1:~
$ inxi -Fxz

I've been running Slack0 5.7 .exe inside of Windows 7 inside this Laptop. I noticed the HP F key boot cheat code but did not use it. Wifi, Tap to click, Youtube, sound all work OK. I had this laptop set up this way with Puppy because I have 4 primary partitions that came with it.

So before I figured out how to turn one into a logical partition and shrink and keep Windows 7 booting which is what I have now.
I intalled Puppy inside of Windows instead.

What is the HP F boot cheat code for. I don't think I'll need it but I thought I would ask before I run the installer. Grub install will be going to the MBR of /dev/sda. Funny part is and it is hard to explain. The Puppy install installs a grub boot loader that picks up
Windows and Puppy.

Here is the weird part. Since Puppy is installed as a program file. When one uninstalls it via Add/Remove programs in Windows 7.
Grub gets uninstalled with it. So kinda another experiment for me. I figure grub is not on MBR of drive (I am guessing with fingers crossed) So when I install MX14. I am hoping I will on my Mepis grub screen. Mepis, then Windows.

If I pick Windows. Then The Puppy Grub screen kicks in. At least that is what I hope. If not. Oh well. No biggy. I use this laptop mostly for tuning motorcyles and such. So, my only question. What is HP cheat do?
I can deal with the rest.

Got my answer from the source.

http://antix.freeforums.org/post36095.html#p36095

Now for a reboot. Use the HP cheat code and install.

Edit: I was right (lucky me). It's a triple booter now. Looks like the Puppy Grub boot loader modified Windows boot loader so Now I can boot Windows 7, Slack0 5.7, and MX-14 from MX-14 grub 2 menu.

I just pick Windows on /dev/sda1 and that throws me to the Puppy/Windows boot screen to pick from there.

Side note. I had a error 111 smart drive fail warning right after saying everything was ready to install. Asking me if I wanted to abort.
So I aborted and started over from scratch again.
So I reformatted again manually and still recieved that warning.
/ is 10gig ext4, /home is 80 gig ext4, /swap is 4 gig.
I said to heck with it and installed any ways. If this hard drive is failing.
Well. i guess I'll buy a SSD and start over. Just thought I'd mention the warning.
In case it comes up in some body elses install procedure.
