Re: printer not working
Based on the info you have given, I reckon the fuse has blown :)

Re: printer not working
okay.... so I guess I need to configure a printer now.
start menu->settings->print settings->add->network printer->find network printer
then I enter the ip address of the printer into 'host' and click 'find'.
then (what I assume) is my printer appears (it says hp <something>) and then it asks for printer manufacturer and then the model. I select the model and then click 'forward' and it just sits there. What is wrong?

Re: printer not working
use the meta-package insller to install all the hp printing stuff. (I'm guessing you have an hp printer, but you haven't given us any info)

Re: printer not working
We can't say much without the model info, as you might guess. Mine, for instance, is HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
Personal: Lenovo X1 Carbon with MX-23 Fluxbox and Windows 10
Other: Raspberry Pi 5 with MX-23 Xfce Raspberry Pi Respin

Re: printer not working
you are correct... it is hp. I installed the meta-stuff but still after the recommended driver is selected it goes nowhere.
Re: printer not working
Try localhost:631 in a Browser. You may have to delete the existing printer to get things setup correctly. The CUPS Browser interface is fairly straightforward to use. It can be successful where there have been problems.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

There's a menu entry for that...

Re: printer not working
I get this on MX-14 with a Brother Hl-2140, Click Forward and wait for ever.bmike1 wrote:) and then it asks for printer manufacturer and then the model. I select the model and then click 'forward' and it just sits there. What is wrong?
Re: printer not working
The CUPS method is meant to be used for problems like this: Start menu > System > Printer-(CUPS)
Production: 5.10, MX-23 Xfce, AMD FX-4130 Quad-Core, GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2, 16 GB, SSD 120 GB, Data 1TB
