Failed live boot2

#1 Post by anticapitalista »

Before we move into beta2, I would like some volunteers to test out that the changes made to the live initrd.gz (geek talk for running MX live) actually work without the need for cheats such as load=pata-via

Here is the delta patch called live1_delta - http://www.mepisimo.com/antix/Others/

Apply it to the original clean iso - MX-14_13.97_386-xfce.iso (if you downloaded via torrent make sure you rename it as MX-14_13.97_386-xfce.iso)

Code: Select all

xdelta3 -d -s MX-14_13.97_386-xfce.iso live1_delta MX-14-beta1-patched.iso
I need testers who didn't need to do anything before in the sense that the iso just booted ok (just to check that this is still the case), and testers who managed to get cd to boot with applying a previous patch or typing load=pata-via.

This is particularly for those who boot from cd/dvd, but it wouldn't harm if testers boot from usb (formatted as ext2 or fat) or frugal from hard drive.

Does that include those of us that use the isohybrid/dd method to copy the image to a USB thumbdrive? (actually in this case we can skip the isohybrid step).

Also you mention "frugal", I haven't tried that. I have tried booting the alphas & unpatched beta1 fromiso, without success.

Booted before the patch and after the patch in a VBox install. USB stick made with Unetbootin.

Did you make any changes to the wireless drivers. I could not connect to my router whereas I could with the original. Just a question not to confuse the issue and ignore if you made no changes.

There are no changes to what is on the original beta1 iso. the only changes relate to booting it as a live cd/dvd/usb etc

My LiveUSB thumbdrive (created using isohybrid/dd method) still boots with the patched version.

I do note one change, my LiveUSB thumbdrive is now detected as /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdc.

Unpatched Beta1 detected it as /dev/sda1 /dev/sda

edit:
oops, I do see another change or changes, more modules are being loaded now, 35, versus 26 modules (IIRC) with unpatched Beta 1

Both the original .iso and the patched .iso boot fine here (burned to CD). I didn't try the patched .iso on a flash drive -- do I need to?

It now boots in fromiso mode too, which I never I got to work with the unpatched Beta 1 {though it could be that I finally found the right cheats and syntax}
