I used sgfxi on M12b2 as well to get the resolution right. That is no problem, as long as I can get past that login hehe.
The Xorg nouveau driver works well for me with my FX5200 nvidia card, better than it ever did with the M12 alphas & betas, though think I my new display has something to do with it (I think the old Samtron CRT that I used to use must've had some EDID related problems/quirks).

Eadwine - do you still have that livecd/dvd? If so when you get time, boot it to desktop and then type

df -h /live/boot-dev

We want to see how your cd/dvd device shows up. I guess it is /dev/sr0, but one more check wouldn't go amiss.

It is

Code: Select all

demo@mx1:~
$ df -h /live/boot-dev
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sr0        694M  694M     0 100% /live/boot-dev
demo@mx1:~
$

We need to know your graphics. You might need to add these cheats also at the boot menu.

nomodeset nouveau.modeset=0 or the equivalent for radian.

When you ran live did you get to the desktop?
Hi, anticapitalist.

I can confirm that when I ran the live cd, I did get a graphical desktop, which I used for the install.

When I boot, I get the GRUB screen, but can't see where to enter a 3, so I'm going to run the Live CD again and do it there, to confirm the graphics hardware. Obviously, this still doesn't solve my problem of not being able to get to a terminal/ prompt, so I can do something useful.

Thanks,

Chris.

It occurred to me that I still had the CD knocking around, so I just used the ISO that I had successfully used yesterday. Yesterday, in order to get to the graphical install, I needed to do the

Code: Select all

BP=2
load-live-modules
exit
in order for MX to see my installation media. I replicated this behaviour, but the media will not boot to X; I tried several times.

Rebooting and trying the CLI-Installer and inxi -G, I can confirm that I have a NVIDIA NV6 (Vanta/ Vanta LT) card and that the driver is 'N/A', so I assume no drivers are loaded.

Thanks,

Chris.
