<r>Overweight penguins appear regularly on the forum. Here's a video I made a few years ago when a container ship (it was the Captain's birthday) tried taking
a short cut to the local port and grounded on a well known reef. In the first days some 300 tons of heavy marine oil were lost with devastating effects on the
little Blue Penguins that inhabit the coasts, islands and sea. A rescue operation ran for several months. Photo bulletins were published on-line daily. I saved these
and have assembled a few with voice over commentary into a set of dvd videos. This is one of them, length about 9 minutes.
Thanks, Gordon.
The response by the New Zealanders is impressive.
Sad to think that so little thought went into the design for underwater crash points.
Imagine they only thought to keep the center of gravity lower.
And the wreck is still there.

Re: Oil soaked Penguins
@Richard.The wreck has almost gone. Stern section broke away in bad weather, settled on the reef for a while then sank in deep water. Bow section was cut up to below water line and removed. Just a few bits of keel stuck on the rocks.
