I see now many commentators talking about their defense. That makes me think they have a very strong chance at the title.

With such a strong defense it was great that they scored first!

Right, In modern football, ball possession is no longer very important, it requires above all a good defense, a good goal, and an insistive and efficient counter-attack with very fast players. And as usual a little luck.

Having the french nationality, i can assure you that, from my point of view, this so-called victory is gonna be an embarrassment for months if not even years, since I'm a strong opposant to sports professionalization and both intellectual and economical crookeries like the Mondial Cup - or any professional competition in sports, AFAIC.

Furthermore, the tell affirming "Country X has won", "congrats to Country X", "bravo Country X citizens" could be located somewhere around a meeting point between common myths, deliberate lies, cerebral void and propaganda. Located in Ubu Roi's, orwellian and kafkaian fictional worlds.

So... Yes : the so called victory is going to be a pain in the ass for months - and even years, due to a large part of my fellow-citizens (or even the world-citizens AFAIK, that I'd so enjoy to call fellows too) tendancies to be so adept of this kind of forgery, patriotic bigotery and love for their own falls in traps. I will have to listen to all these nonsenses for years, and over ten times a day during the following weeks.

My deepest condolences,
cordially yours, k_sz

Living in the countryside far from civilization is good : no car horns, only silence. That's so pleasant

EDIT : but I have to admit they deserve the victory. Without Lloris blunder that would have been 4-1. Anyway I don't know why football is loved by so many people (in France we have one of the best handball team in the world, if not the best, but they received much less media attention).

This was a fun World Cup, I thoroughly enjoyed it, I'm so happy the final didn't end to be a terse boring 1-0 with a team scoring from a dubious offside position or getting a goal when the ball didn't cross the goal line or if it was pushed in the net with the hand...
