MEPIS 12 Community Repository: The Xscreensaver Thread

#1 Post by Stevo » Thu Jan 01, 2015 5:49 pm

The 5.30 version of xscreensaver has been in the test CR for a few weeks, I just forgot to add the thread. :bagoverhead:

It should get rid of the annoying pop-up. I have a feeling it will also be in wheezy-backports---but with some of their screwups, such as the still missing (2 months) libav 0.9 that make their VLC and Handbrake uninstallable, who knows?

.
Screensaver, Version 5.30 (Sept 2014), working fine for me.
No pop-ups.
It helps to reload Synaptic before you search.

xscreensaver 5.33, released 25 June 2015, will soon be in the test repo, thanks to a PPA maintainer that did the work of Debianizing the source. That should keep the nag screen at bay for a while.

5.33 has some new hacks (savers), and other changes; probably the most impressive one is Splitflap, (video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZOL2jyDey0 ) which will display mysterious messages as the board floats around. I also noticed that Winduprobots will now display messages in a comic-style balloon as the bots stumble around.

Please let us know how this installs and performs if you give it a try--this needs to be in the main repo before the older packages expire.

Has anyone tried 5.33 yet? 5.30 is getting close to the one-year nag deadline!

Sorry: I have been running it since it became available on MX 14.4 and on the pre-alpha without any problem that I can see.

Thanks, I'd just like to get it into main to prevent the possible nag screen and as default for MX 15.

I'm having no problems with it either--though the current KDE kscreensaver module does not have integration with any of the new "hacks" (savers).
