MEPIS 12/MX 14 Repo: The GIMP and GIMP plugins Thread

#1 Post by Stevo » Wed Nov 13, 2013 12:18 am

The latest bugfix 2.8.8 release to the bitmap image editor GIMP is now in the testing CR.

There's also a couple updates to some GIMP plugin packages that I found in a PPA, gimp-plugin-registry and gimp-gmic, along with gmic-zart (executable is zart, a demo which applies effects to a webcam stream.

And also an update to the GIMP help files, gimp-help, to 2.8 to finally match the GIMP version. This also thanks to the PPA, since Debian and Ubuntu haven't updated it yet.

Please let us know if there's any problems with installation or performance of the program.

Thanks for the updated GIMP package Stevo.

Main GIMP app works.

Installed english-GB help file, no go.
Installed plain english help file. works.

Uninstall plain english help file, help doesn't work.

Looks like GIMP app not finding the english-GB help file.

Cheers NH

That's pretty odd--I wonder if there's some localization setting in GIMP that affects that. I'll have to look.

Edit: Under Edit/Preferences/Interface, you can set the language to a specific version instead of the system default. I found setting that to en-GB still had the User Manual working with only that gimp-help package installed (plain "en" removed)

Thanks Stevo, that fix the problem.

I don't think it should have to be set that way in a normal install to get the language set-up.

That confirms a suspicion I've just had recently that my localisation is mucked up big time.

I'm picking it's a problem with my set-up, not your packaging of GIMP.
Sorry for the false alarm.

I'm on M12-b1 at the moment.
Time for a fresh install, I wonder what the time line for M12-beta3 is?

Cheers NH

All looks fine here: installed without problem over existing version, menu insertion correct, everything seems to run fine.

I did notice that Help > User Manual > How to Use Dialogues produces a missing section error, though not your problem of course.

After 7 months we now have a new bugfix 2.8.20 release in the test repo. Changes include:

Avoid D-Bus error message when built without D-Bus support
fix OS X min required conditional in gimpimagewindow.c
Saving to existing .xcf.bz and .xcf.gz files didn’t truncate them and could lead to unnecessarily large files
Text layer created by gimp-text-fontname doesn’t respect border when resized
Flow on Paint Dynamics editor dialog: the ‘y’ axis is indicating ‘Rate’ instead ‘Flow’
Vertical ruler shows artifacts if the status bar isn’t showing
Tablet stylus misbehaves when crossing the edge of a dock in multi-window-mode
Disable the new “automatic window tabbing” feature introduced on mac OS Sierra
Improve the visiblity of slider handles with dark themes
Make it harder to switch to renaming if selecting already selected items in resource lists
make toggling to color picker mode of paint tools more robust
call gimp_file_entry_set_filename() with filename encoding
