MEPIS 12 Community Repository: The Wine Thread

#1 Post by Stevo » Sat Aug 17, 2013 12:42 am

Wine 1.6, which is the newest stable release, has been compiled for MEPIS 12.

This is the same single deb version we've been building for the older CRs for quite a while. I have not tested it as to how it fares with the standard Wheezy wine-plus-umpteen-libwine packages already installed, though hopefully the conflicts-replaces already in place still work. I also had to fiddle around with some build-depends on 64-bit, due to the new multiarch stuff in Wheezy. I'm sticking to cross-compiling the 32-bit version on 64-bit, since 64-bit Wine is still pretty useless.

This version should also work with Silverlight 4 and the new M12 build of netflix-desktop, too.

Did not go well this time :frown:

On my 64-bit Wheezy I upgraded over top of the 1.4 that was there. Four out of the five programs I use quit working. Also, something ate most of the available fonts, leaving only 9 lame MS system fonts available in Desktop Integration.

On my 32-bit laptop things went a lot better, but one of my must-have programs, GoldWave, quit working. Maybe a regression in 1.6?

Maybe later on I'll try again, but wipe Wine totally first and start from scratch.

I figured out the problems with the M12 64-bit version, at least getting to build with all the features working. However, it looks like I now need to go into the control file and have manually have it depend on the ":i386" versions of libraries that it uses, but are not added by ia32-libs, such as libcups2:i386 and libsane:i386 for printing and scanning.

Anyway, here's the first good deb, but without the automatic dependencies (except for sound and a few other libraries.

A little detective work in /usr/bin :

Code: Select all

ldd wine
        linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xf773f000)
        libwine.so.1 => /usr/bin/./../lib32/libwine.so.1 (0xf7588000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpthread.so.0 (0xf7540000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libc.so.6 (0xf73f0000)
        libdl.so.2 => /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libdl.so.2 (0xf73e8000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xf7740000)
Hmmm...maybe it builds mostly static libraries, more research is necessary. Anyway, this version was able to go to the Silverlight DRM test page and play video, also run Firefox 24.0 with Adobe Flash 11.8. I think it also gets rid of the fonts problems.

<feedback>
I've installed it on a fresh 64-bit Wheezy after removing Debian's wine 1.4.

Things are much improved now. The font problem is gone and most of my few programs work fine except for Goldwave, which is not really a problem for me. It works a lot better in XP (in a VM) anyway. I have not tried it on 32-bit (yet).

Bump: stable version 1.6 and development versions 1.7.4 are now both in the testing repository. You'll have to use Synaptic's feature of installing a specific version to get 1.6.

Latest development release, 1.7.5, now in the testing CR. Added some openCL headers to the build-depends and apparently that feature is now enabled, but don't have the hardware to test it.

Wine-1.7.14 now in the testing repo. It's still pipelight and netflix-desktop compatible, too.

Wine 1.7.14 has been added to the Main CR to accompany netflix-desktop 0.8.7 (and friends) move to main. It took a while for the pipelight project to update their patchset for Wine 1.7.18, and by the time I got them, I just built wine-1.7.19 with them instead, so that's what's currently in the testing CR.

Wine 1.7.21 is now in the testing repository. It has the latest pipelight patchset to continue to support Silverlight DRM for Netflix and other similar streaming services.

Please let us know how it installs and performs if you give it a try. Thanks!
