MEPIS 12/MX 14 Repository: The Firefox Thread

#1 Post by Stevo » Wed Aug 14, 2013 12:18 am

The 32-bit and 64-bit Firefox binaries from Mozilla are now available in the testing CR. The packages will not interfere with an older, natively built Firefox or Iceweasel, since it will install in /opt, but not add anything to /usr/bin. Instead, it uses the menu launcher in /usr/share/applications to launch /opt/firefox/firefox.

Hmm-got the 26.0 update notice this AM, but can't find anything in the Linux ftp server to rebuild even tonight. Has anyone updated yet in the browser?

That's sure weird...still no new versions in the "latest" ftp archive. I just did the new Thunderbird 24.2.0 packages, though.

I downloaded the tarball but the unarchived stuff will not launch. I'm trying to use the same address as the kmathern script places 25.0.1. IE: in /opt

(I can't get rev3 to execute or I'd just use it.)

I ended up reinstalling 25.0.1 for now.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

Firefox 26 was supposed to have been released yesterday, but at the time I'm posting this 25.0.1 is still showing as the "latest" version at several locations I usually check:
http://download-origin.cdn.mozilla.net/ ... _64/en-US/ {the location my rev3 installer script checks}
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... _64/en-US/
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/f ... _64/en-US/

If I go directly to the 26.0 directory (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... ases/26.0/) there's this:
ff26-not-finished-yet.png
It looks like you will get FF26 at this page here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ because a "firefox-26.0" shows up in the links when you hover the mouse cursor over them. {but I think you'll end up with the 32bit tarball}

Yesterday, 12-10-13, the notification popped up, I clicked it, and wound up with this (64-bit):

I checked several times today, FF 26.0 finally made it to the "latest" directory: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... _64/en-US/
