MEPIS 12 Community Repository: The Thunderbird Thread

#1 Post by Stevo » Wed Aug 07, 2013 12:32 am

The latest security fix, 17.0.8esr, is now in the testing CR. These packages are the official Mozilla binaries for i686 and amd64 architectures, just packaged into deb files and with menu entries added. Please let us know how this is working if you try it out.

Stevo - will this install alongside Icedove, and do you know if this version works with the Lightning extension? I'm reluctant to try it if it interferes with my present setup.

Yes, it will install alongside Icedove, though you'll go through an extension check each time you switch between them. And since version 17 has been out for quite a while, Lightning should keep working.

Thunderbird started fine and I linked my existing profile. All email functions worked as expected. Added Lightning (which took an age) and restarted. It found my calendars, but no details appeared and none of the buttons or menu item worked - they were all greyed out.

I've gone back to Icedove.

Just tested Lightning 1.9.1 on 64-bit Thunderbird ESR, and all those things are working on my machine. I wonder if it's having trouble with your existing profile?

Could well be, Stevo - I had a lot of trouble with it when I moved from Thunderbird on M11 to Icedove on the Alpha. In the end, I created a new profile and reconstructed my data and settings. It's not something I want to do again - it took a couple of hours (including rectifying errors). I'm using 5 separate email accounts and 9 calendars, so everything has to work.

Update: decided to bundle the newest 24.0 for M12 and M11. The program should offer to upgrade Lightning to the compatible 2.0 version if you let it search.

Thanks Stevo, but it still doesn't work for me. Installed fine and I like the updated look, but Lightning still won't open my calendars. The calendar grid shows, my individual calendars all show up in the sidebar, but the grid is empty (no dates, no events) and all the menu items are greyed out.

I'll stick with Icedove/Iceowl.
