MEPIS 11 Community Repository: The SMTube Thread

#1 Postby Stevo » Mon Jan 07, 2013 10:33 pm

Formerly this was part of the defunct UMPlayer fork, but the SMPlayer developer has taken the code and split it off into a standalone application. This lets you browse, play, and download Youtube videos without the Flash plugin. You can also choose which player will play the streaming video. We have the current 1.5 release in the testing community repo, and please let us know how it's working.

Since Youtube API changes break this type of application often, we'll have to keep on top of updates...
The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds, and the pessimist fears this is true.

Worked on 64-bit:
- Run it from Kmenu >>> Multimedia
- Wouldn't play videos at first, had to change setting to VLC (default is MPlayer).
- nice feature: right click video >>> record: to download it as .mp4 file

Thanks

Hi

Would it be possible to update the current version for Mepis 11, smtube 1.8.1 to the latest 2.0 release. It looks like they have stopped providing updates for when Youtube makes changes on their end for smtube versions 1.x . The new version has a few new features including the option to just record the audio. I also have an MX-14 installation so would be great to have it for Mepis 12 / MX-14.

Thank You

Dale

Sure, thanks for the tip. MX is keeping me busy...we could use a few more packagers!

And sending them up to the CR.

Looks like SMTube 2.1-1mcr120+1 no longer works with mpv (0.3.9-1mcr120+1). Recording videos works, but playing them does nothing.

Tracing the process gives:

Code: Select all

$ strace -e trace=file smtube
stat64("/usr/bin/smplayer", 0xbf816b10) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
stat64("/home/alad/bin/smplayer", 0xbf816b10) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
stat64("/usr/bin/smplayer", 0xbf816b10) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory)
--- SIGCHLD (Child exited) @ 0 (0) ---

So, installed smplayer and behold! It works with mpv. :alien:
Regards, Alad

The above post must be referring to the M12 version, since there's no mpv for M11.

Anyway, we now have the latest 15.8.0 release in the M11 test repo. Changes from our last 15.5.17 build include:

- Add the Turkish and Hungarian translations.
- New option for the config file: use_cookies. If set to false
then the cookies won't be loaded or saved.
- Add a combobox in PlayerDialog for the quality.
- New and experimental code to get the youtube URLs.
- Add menu Navigate.
- Add the load home action to the navigate menu.
- Add player 'smplayer (audio)'.
- Option to select the menu where a player should be.
- Use .m4a for extension for audio.
- Possibility to play only the audio.
- Add a button in the settings dialog to add the predefined players to
the list of players.

We've updated the SMTube main repo version to 15.11.0. This should get Uget downloads working again, as well as catch up with the neverending Vevo obfuscations. Also there's preliminary support for Youtube's live streams.

SMTube 16.1.0 is now in the test repo. The main change is to fix Youtube signature problems.
