MEPIS 11 Community Repo: The SMPlayer Thread

#1 Postby Stevo » Tue Feb 07, 2012 1:35 am

Update 4-14-2012: New release 0.8.0 is now available in the testing community repo. Changes include:

A toolbar editor has been added. Now it's possible to select the buttons and controls that want to appear in the toolbars.
New video filters: gradfun, blur and sharpen.
Now it's possible to change the GUI (default, mini, mpc) at runtime, no restart required.
sub files from opensubtitles should work again.
(Youtube) Recognize short urls (like this one: http://y2u.be/F5OcZBVPwOA)
Better support for chapters in video files.
Bug fix: remote m3u files work from the favorites menu or command line.
Internal changes in the single instance option (switch to QtSingleApplication).

__________________________________________________________________

After being on development hiatus for quite some time, SMPlayer is alive again. Version 0.7.0 is now in the main testing community repo.

SMPlayer is a QT 4 GUI front-end to either mplayer or mplayer 2, and thus can play most any multimedia file or stream that one can find. New in this release:
2012-01-28)
* Add Help -> Check for updates (replaces Help -> Tips)

(2012-01-27)
* Simplify the about dialog.

(2012-01-25)
* Detect mplayer2.
* Use precise seeking is using mplayer2.
* Add an option in preferences -> interface to enable or not precise seeking.

(2012-01-24)
* Move the open dvd, vcd and audio cd to a submenu.

(2012-01-23)
* New option for command-line: -disable-server. This option disables the server used to communicate with other instances. This, of course, disables too the possibility to use a single instance.

(2012-01-23)
* Move the favorite menu to the open menu, and add an icon to the toolbar.

(2012-01-13 - 2012-01-21)
* New favorite menu, where you can add your favorite videos, music, streams, youtube videos... It's also possible to add submenus.

(2012-01-20)
* Use QtLockedFile instead of QxtFileLock, so we can get rid of the libqxt dependency on windows. The QtLockedFile is under the BSD license.

(2012-01-19)
* The title of youtube videos is displayed correctly. And the stream url is replaced by the url of the youtube page.

(2012-01-14)
* Added the Croatian translation, by jk.

(2012-01-12)
* Detect asx, m3u, pls, and ram streams and pass -playlist to mplayer, so the user doesn't have to indicate if a url is a playlist.

(2012-01-11)
* Added an option in preferences -> performance to select the desired quality for youtube videos.

(2012-01-11)
* Added a very basic support for youtube. Now you can open urls like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq4Oj5quskI in smplayer (Open -> URL)

(2012-01-04)
* New option "Hide video window when playing audio files" in preferences -> interface.

Let us know how this version is working, thanks! There will builds for M8.5 soon.

OK, the latest version 0.8.3 is now in the testing CR. The big news is a skinnable interface adopted from UMPlayer, and the same themes are available in the new smplayer-skins package. This is only Recommended, not a depends, so you'll probably have to manually add it.

Bump: latest stable release 0.8.4 is now in the testing CR. Now has an option to look for updates...but may have to patch that, since that's not the "Debian Way".

Bump: latest 0.8.5 release is now in the testing repo. Changes include:

We are glad to announce the release of smplayer 0.8.5. This new version features a fix for the option to find subtitles. Due to changes in opensubtitles.org, this option didn't work well lately. We fixed it and now smplayer can find more subtitles than ever.
Another important change, now the default interface is the skinnable interface. This change will affect only to new users, those who upgrade will maintain their preferred interface.
We also changed the default setting for the autoresize option, now the main window won't be resized automatically. This has been done to avoid the problem that may happen when playing HD videos, since the main window could end up partially outside of the screen.
Some other configuration options have been changed, like the cache settings, to try to improve performance when playing from slow media, like internet URLs.
We also added an option for the playlist which allows to enter URLs.

Bump: 0.8.5+git5552 (pulled from the SMPlayer source code git repository) is now in the test community repository. Ricardo has being fixing a constantly changing Youtube API, he thinks now with 5552 it can update itself to fix the issue. This will also get rid of that updated nag :crossfingers: :)

It seems youtube did it again and smplayer fails to play many youtube videos (mostly music videos).

I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

Experimental: since r5552 smplayer can update the code that decodes the youtube signatures, so it won't be needed to update smplayer every time youtube makes a change.

Bump: another pull from git, #5597, and I figured out how to get the git rev. number to show up in the version, so that really fixes the update notice. This also really fixes the Youtube problem with playing certain videos (music videos such as Anna Kendrik's "Cups", for example) using SMPLayer and SMTube.

There's also an update of SMTube from 1.5 to 1.7, though you still will get an error when trying to download those problem videos in SMTube. The workaround is to capture the stream in SMPlayer by adding the Mplayer commands:

Code: Select all

-dumpstream -dumpfile <filename>.mp4

in the Advanced Preferences, i.e.

Code: Select all

-dumpstream -dumpfile ~/Videos/Anna_Kendrik_CUPS.mp4

The video will not be watchable while downloading, so you may have to monitor the network traffic to see when it finishes.

Update: 0.8.6 is now in the test repository, along with an update to smplayer-skins and smtube-1.8. I tried a problem "Vevo" Youtube music video, SMTube informed me there was a problem and would I like to download an internal update to fix this. After the update, I was able to view and download the video (Anna Kendrick's "Cups") without the workaround in the post above. There are also a few more bugfixes.

SMPlayer has changed its versioning; from now on it's year.month, so this new update is 14.3.0. We now have it in the test CR. Changes include:

SMPlayer 14.3 released

Postby rvm » Tue Apr 01, 2014 10:43 pm
Previous version was 0.8.6, this new release is 14.3... What happened? Now the version is just the year and month of the release.

Version 14.3

The control for fullscreen mode has been rewritten and improved. Now it is displayed over the video.
(Windows) New option in Preferences -> Subtitles to enable or disable the use of the Windows font directory. Disabling this option prevents the annoying font scanning.
Some presets have been added to the audio equalizer.
(Experimental) Possibility to play (non-protected) blu-ray discs.
Better support for multimedia keys. This can help control SMPlayer with a remote control.
New option in the playlist preferences for adding automatically other files in the folder to the playlist.
The option "Move the window when the video area is dragged" has been fixed.
(Windows) Now it's possible to open Windows shortcuts (symlinks).
Better support for Youtube.
(Windows) Better screensaver disabling.
Many bugfixes.
Possibility to compile with Qt 5.
