Answered my own question, found an older thread, scroll down to Post # 286254 by Stevo.

Works well with my new Lenovo E320,
wireless reaches N150 speeds,
desktop effects worked after running sgfxi and reconfiguring Desktop Effects,
Sound worked after adding some channels in the mixer and turning them up,, though half the channels disappeared after a reboot and I had to reconfigure the few that were left. Playback still worked, unable to test Mic.
Sleep (suspend to Ram) and resume works perfectly,
hibernate (suspend to Disk) is no different to a full shut down,
Function keys operate as expected.

More to come, will soon test the Liquorix 3.2.0-9 kernel from the Liquorix repos.

I can't remember who, but someone was waiting for this release before installing Roadblock and was wondering if GnuCash would run. I have GunCash up and happy.

I think that was me. I asked about it in the other thread. Don't need Gnucash yet, but might in the future. I'm making the switch to Linux and running needed programs in VBox. GnuCash is the only alternative I can see to creating invoices I currently create in Quickbooks. The less I run in vbox the better.

Will there be any problems with repos and installing things like virtualbox since this distro is now half based on Debian stable and half based on testing? I assume KDE4.7 is out of testing? I'm just concerned about stability and installing things. Or is their a Roadblock repo setup so we don't mess up our system with KDE 4.5 based programs?

hi guys...

partitioned a cruzer 4 GB thumbdrive, 1.5... then 2.2... runs pretty great on the laptop i reckon :tumbleweed: used unetbootin to copy it to the first partition.

as you can probably tell nvidia installs automatically, so no problem with opengl and effects that i had with the desktop and intel.

also wireless... pretty much a breeze here while running live, “yeah!”

most excellent  thanks.

running into a problem trying to launch/load VLC.

Whenever I try to launch the program it crashes right back to desktop. When I launch in a console I get the following error message:
Zerias@Li-Media:~$ vlc

And yes, I have already tried complete-removing the version installed on the disc and installing from the Community Repo.

Saist, try purging with aptitude,

Code: Select all

aptitude purge vlc vlc-data vlc-nox
Then try installing using synaptic.
complete-removing using synaptic, does not completely remove, while aptitude does,

NOTE: To play commercial DVD's.
1. Enable the debian-multimedia Repository
2. Refresh
3. Install libdvdcss2 (this gets the necessary codecs)
4. Disable the debian-multimedia Repository
5. Refresh

Of course this is not needed if you can't get VLC to work, but there maybe someone else that just cannot get a DVD to play. I have noted that libdvdcss2 is not installed by default.

okay: another "common" problem

I ran into an issue where my power settings were not being recognized. E.G. I'd System Settings to not turn off the monitor, and the monitor would turn off. When playing movies in VLC, the monitor would turn off. This problem appears to be related to a KDE profile issue.

The quick Mepis fix is to:
  • Log out of active user account
  • Log into /root
  • Go to Mepis Utilities for User
  • Repair User KDE config
  • Reboot

I got mine installed and mostly setup. But what happened to Dolphin as root? I could have sworn I saw it when I first installed and now its gone.
