I like that article. Bold but with some salient points particularly about diminishing returns of collecting and analysing more and more data and the analogy of predicting when it's safe to cross the road.
Hopefully DuckDuckGo will develop an operating system for smart phones soon! ;)

A futurist?

Oh.. *shoves aside*

There will not be an end to google for a long while to come. You can quote me on that in 30 years, if I am still alive then ;)

I hope one day in the future we, the humanity, will be laughing about the "privacy corruption era" (Microsoft, Google, Apple, and 10 million apps).

A little less than 30 years ago I worked for Kodak. At the time they shared 1st place with IBM, as the wealthiest/largest corporation in the world.

~Six years ago, in 2012, Kodak filed for bankruptcy.

It emerged from bankruptcy after selling off most of what it once was, & selling patents. It looks to be now mostly a commercial photocopier business.

Which is interesting, as I was one of their associate imaging technologists.

Anyway, over a period of ~130 years, Kodak went from becoming the long standing leader of the film industry, the inventor of digital cameras & being a multifaceted corporation that lead in a number of fields (they owned Verbatim) to becoming just another corporation surviving by the skin of its teeth.

All things must pass... ;)

Anything that grows too big tends to grow to disaster. Sort law of nature.
And it would not be a terrible thing in Google's case I believe, when one sees what they do with the data of clients/users... when one sees what they think they must do with recording internal in the smartphone ("no internal recording with us, Google")... when you see what they do with tracking...
They can do much, much better. :number1:

I also worked for Kodak prior to its demise. I worked on the last new film manufacturing design in which hundreds of millions were spent and it was dead in two years after introduction. The issue was not innovation but failing to judge the market. Kodak was first to develop the digital camera, but never commercialized it fearing it would weaken their film sales. Why they did not foresee someone else developing and marketing digital, let alone its potential is a mystery to me.
If Google stagnates they will suffer. I do not see that happening as they move into new business opportunities. But my guess is as good as yours.

Hello, handy...

Not enough information in your question, leaving it somewhat ambiguous.

Do you mean: "Could we see an end to Google, I wonder?" . ?

Or, is it more like: "Could we see an end to Google - please?" . ?

From the limitation in wording it is hard to tell, so a definitive answer doesn't really fit within parameters.

Without the clarity, I tossed a coin to determine an answer, but it landed on edge against the wall - so I'd have to say: "maybe?" .
