Lakeport fire

#1 Post by mmikeinsantarosa » Mon Jul 30, 2018 12:26 pm

A good friend got evacuated yesterday from his home in Lakeport, CA. Another friend posted a video Looking West from downtown lakeport yesterday.

Best fire map I could find.

This one's been named the "River Fire". There's another big one just North called the "Ranch Fire".

Not good. - mike

These are quite a ways from my home so we're safe but I have friends in the thick of it that have evac'd in both of them.

It's up by Clear Lake.

Though these fires aren't wind-driven like the ones last fall, they are now generating their own winds in some cases.

Here's a scary one burning on the banks of the Colorado river in the desert on July 15: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... Uk_GiQBgyc

I can't watch the news about these wildfires without thinking about "Only the Brave" (about the Granite Mountain Hotshots). If you've not seen the movie, I highly recommend watching it - it makes you realise just how brave and dedicated those Firefighters are.

Smoke from the fires is affecting visibility at the Truckee airport hundreds of miles away near the Nevada state line: (live stream) http://tahoetopia.com/webcam/truckee-tahoe-airport-cam
