15 Distros + Windows benchmarked

#1 Post by clicktician » Mon Jun 11, 2018 10:59 am

A couple of weeks ago, the folks at Phoronix ran 36 benchmarks on several distros using the same machine, and included Windows where they could.
I was not surprised by the performance of Windows or the versions of Debian and Ubuntu from the Windows Store that run as companion OS's. I suspect their I/O implementations in Windows cripples them from what I can see in the tests.

But I was surprised by the differences between distros. Some, like Debian 9.4 and Debian Testing, are expected progressions. Of course, lot can probably be explained by the differences in Kernel versions across the 15 OSs.

It's not a legitimate test without MX-17.1 Linux. In my experience Linux is much faster than Windows and doesn't slow down the longer it's up and running or as your storage drive fills up with data which Windows is notorious for slowing down.
