Any frontend packages to access these, other than an email client?

'Pan' would be my recommendation. It's available from the Package Installer.

My email (ISP) dropped usenet numerous years ago.

Just checked the group out and posted my thanks to those responsible for MX-15. Will check back once and a while. Just installed yesterday and am really impressed.

In the UK usenet, and pretty much anything but the www, have slid down the pan. Some time ago, Virgin Media and a few other ISPs decided that most users did not require
anything but Http and https and email services and cut services such as usenet. As far as UK ISP's are concerned only the WWW demands users the rest is too difficult to maintain or
bother about
