Welcome, AkselVerg.

Yes, Linux is like that.
Lots of paths, lots of choices.
I like to find a distro that requires the fewest changes.
With MX Linux I can set it up my way and make a snapshot.
MX17.1: T430-2017, 8 GB RAM, 4.15.0-1-amd64, 119 SSD
antiX-/MX-171: AA1/Eee, 1 GB RAM, 4.15.0-1-686-pae, 149 HDD
DoubleCmd, LO604, Dropbox, Slimjet, mPDFed, Py3, CherryT, Vbox

This seems like a good place to jump in! I've been a Linux user since around 2006, a paid Linux engineer/admin for around 5 years, and a recent convert to Debian for the desktop. The Debian forums led me to try MX and I'm sold! It's a great distro that has obviously had a lot of thought put into it and this also appears to be a very supportive and friendly community. I make regular contributions to the FOSS projects I use but I'm hoping to be able to contribute some time in the near future as I start to work less.

Anyway, enough about me. What's new with everyone here?

Say hi and stop lurking :)
Used Windows since Windows98. Windows got too heavy for my 10 year or so old laptop. Loaded it with Mint Cinnamon, and it sold me on Linux. Used Mint for about three months, then finally broke down and got a new desktop a couple weeks ago. Loaded it with Mint, and then broke it. Don't think it was Mint's fault, apparently I broke dependencies installing software and couldn't seem to recover. Decided to try MX Linux instead of reinstalling Mint. Glad I did. Despite being lighter it seems to have more of the software I prefer loaded as default, and even seems more resistant to my mistakes (more idiot proof).

Having no major problems, but wanted to get registered in case I need help or can help. So far all my questions have been answered with a search.

Thanks!

Welcome Jeff! One of the great things about MX is you'll rarely need to install something that might mess up your system - if there's a package you want that not in the repositories, just submit a request to see if it can be included!
I edit my posts too much and sometimes I accidentally push the quote button instead of the edit button and make blank posts : (

I never even thought of that, but I see the Community Repository section of the forum now. That's good service! For now I have everything I want, and I think I'll try to leave well enough alone for a little while to make sure everything continues to go so well as it is now.

I wonder how many hours in my years of Windows I spent trying to get things to work that worked in the previous version, and installing and tweaking security software. The one smart thing I did was gravitate toward cross-platform open source software almost from the beginning, which made my move to Linux relatively pain free.
