Isn't that tape?

When MS bailed on XP and everything went to win7, a lot of my older apps wouldn't run on win7(64) but would play just fine on wine. Speaking of tape, I have an old win3.1 cardfile (soft rolodex) that runs great on MX with wine. I just blew away my last win7 partition for Jessie and all I have left is an outlook.pst

Virtualbox/VMware are not recent phenomena, so I don't think the answer is that VMs "displaced" Wine over time. In fact, if anything, installing Windows on a virtual machine is quite a bit more difficult than it used to be. Microsoft's license keys make installing OEM media extremely problematic, plus Microsoft's policies have made it virtually impossible to obtain the media from the OEM in the first place. This forces the user either to purchase a legit copy of Windows at a very high price from Microsoft, or ahem ....

I think that if you poll Linux users, you'll find they simply don't rely on Windows software nearly as much as they used to. I have dual-boot setup, but haven't logged into the Windows partition in almost a year. I do have Win7 installed on Virtualbox (I won't say where that came from, arrrgh), but I only run a single application on it -- a playlist organizer for my Walkman. If there were a Linux version for that, I'd probably abandon Virtualbox too.
Yes they have but have improved greatly. I find running Win 7 in VirtualBox like it was installed to the native hard drive. This was not the case 3 years ago, as it was painfully slow. Not anymore, even on a mid range laptop. I found the initial install of Win 7 painless and easy in VBox. And once installed, the vdi file can be transferred to a new machine without registration problems. So we will have to agree to disagree.

I've never found what I drink with burritos (or anything else food-wise) to be important. If I'm in the mood, I'm in the mood.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.
