It appears that the print scr button method actually uses Ksanpshot.

You can also use GIMP to do screenshots.

In GIMP:

File->Create->Screenshot

Also if you use the prtnt scr button you can copy the screen shot to the clipboard and then in GIMP:

File->Create->From Clipboard

The from clipboard works with any image you have copied to the clip board.

There is another option for getting a Webshot, (and probably many I don't know of as well) but you can install the "screengrab" Firefox plugin. It will take a screenshot of the whole page, or just a section of the screen. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1146

I use this on gnome except I use alt + Print Screen, this allows me to take a pic of the running application instead of entire desktop.
