Deepin 15.9 released

#1 Post by Eggnog »

I'm going to throw it in a spare partition and take it for a spin to see what's new and improved. If nothing else it's a fun way to play around with Sid. It's actually an interesting DE. Yeah, I don't buy all that FUD about Chinese spying. Like they have nothing better to do than spy on random Linux geeks.

I know every one on internet spy, but spying by a country who don’t respect humanity and religious believe is unacceptable. A govt who don’t respect others and being spied by it not acceptable and more dangerous than Other govt.

After all its your pc, your choice.

I understand your concern(s) but I don't share them.
FWIW, my own well-considered investigation of Deepin has brought me to sincerely respect their efforts, their project.

(after disconecting the hard drives, and isolating the machine on a subnet) I have even willing livebooted RedStar Linux. Based on it's technical merit, and its remarkably good English translations support, I was favorably impressed. All its network traffic is proxied, routed via NK-controlled servers so, unsurprisingly, browser pageloads seem comparatively slow (but NOT as slow as TOR -routed traffic, FWIW)... but I tried, and tried, browsing anonymously (i.e. performed no site logins, thankyouverymuch), and found remarkably few blacklisted/inaccessible sites. I did discover a few (3?) sites that weren't proxy-blocked yet did not load as expected because pageloads were redirected by the webserver, to a page which (basically) stated "Nope, we don't serve Your Kind here."

^--- my point here:
Experienced firsthand, the reality stands in sharp contrast with the "so much FUD" you'll find being parroted, regarding RedStar Linux

One more notable "Eastern Block" OS that has impressed me favorably: the distro maintained by "Tencent" (China).
Wow! Not only do they have a suite of in-house developed custom apps, they provide walled-garden Amazon-like shopping, chat + dating services, livestreaming ~~ like a timewarp, flashback to the ecosystem provided by AOL (which I had never personally experienced firsthand)

Since the internet became popular, we no longer have a private life; they spy on your cell phone, on TV, on the street, in the taxi, on the bus, etc; but that does not bother me, I do not do anything improper, I do not handle money through the network, so they can spy on me, even if they wanted to since MX they would be doing it.
I tried Deepin, when version 15 came out, very slow download and updates, its graphical interface I liked a lot but not its office suite or other attachments, it lasted me three days, I could not stand it, then months later I tried it again and it lasted me 4 days, and last month I installed it to compare performance with MX and it lasted only 2 days.
CONCLUSION: for many and obvious reasons of substance and weight I prefer MX.
No todos ignoramos las mismas cosas.

It sounds like you are not having any issues with the spying in and by itself. Do you mean that if the spying is done by less dangerous (in your opinion) entities, then it is acceptable?

Deepin did work out well for my machines, MX is much simpler and works great - That's my opinion and I'm sticking to IT :)
