Thanks! Maybe we can get it into main, since the only complaints people are having also apply to the stock 3.0.3 version.

It looks OK to move to main, IMO...now to see what else needs to move with it. Libaom for AV1 codec support, for sure.

Got all those in the list to move to main, except libmysofa-dev, which didn't show up as a build-depend. Thanks for catching that!

I don't know why libaom doesn't show up in that list, though...maybe I have to add it as a dependency manually? Let me know if you upgrade and can't play any sample AV1 videos, like from here: https://www.elecard.com/videos

Downloaded the first in your link. It starts the video but then stops after a second. Progress bar keeps moving.

Tested with an earlier downloaded MP4, works like a peach.

Tested a few others:

Big Buck Bunny plays for a few seconds, then stops
Surfing plays with no sound and speed seemlingly x2
I love Tomsk progress bar moves, but no image no sound
Elecard 4K video about Tomsk, part 1, 2 & 3 plays VERY choppy and with lots of screen elements, no sound. 3 is the worst
Elecard 4K video about Russian Beatles plays the sound, but stalls on the video

All of them play here on VLC, mpv and Kaffeine.
Tomsk doesn't have a sound stream included.
Surfing does run too fast on vlc (fine on mpv) but did on old the older vlc as well.
Big Buck Bunny plays OK but has high CPU usage (actually all of these streams do, but BBB was 50% higher)
HP Pavillion TP01, AMD Ryzen 3 5300G (quad core), Crucial 500GB SSD, Toshiba 6TB 7200rpm
Dell Inspiron 15, AMD Ryzen 7 2700u (quad core). Sabrent 500GB nvme, Seagate 1TB

It just might be your driver or hardware, or even the output driver set in VLC. Can you try a 720 video instead of 4K, or playing them from the command line? For what it's worth, I can play them on bare metal and in VBox...even the 4K.

QMPlay2 wouldn't play them until I updated ffmpeg to 4.0.3 from the test repo, though.

Tried from the terminal with video output set to automatic:

Code: Select all

$ vlc Stream3_AV1_720p_3.9mbps.webm
VLC media player 3.0.5 Vetinari (revision 3.0.5-1-0-g653c0c1ca8)
[000055a739a461a0] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
[00007f518c002a10] egl_x11 gl error: cannot select OpenGL API

With X11 as output:

Code: Select all

eadwine@eadwine-mx18:~/Documents
$ vlc Stream3_AV1_720p_3.9mbps.webm
VLC media player 3.0.5 Vetinari (revision 3.0.5-1-0-g653c0c1ca8)
[000055af3be4d1a0] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
Same result.

Selecting OpenGL as output gives me the same result as the automatic.
