Re: Interesting Distrowatch ranking update
I hope nobody will consider it too off-topic if I express puzzlement at Elementary, which I consider a niche distro, being very high.
Re: Interesting Distrowatch ranking update
It's because they have their bot running on Distrowatch.
I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.
Re: Interesting Distrowatch ranking update
Do you have anything to back this claim or is it only a hunch?
Re: Interesting Distrowatch ranking update
I thought DistroWatch was alert to bots and stuffing the ballot box?

I do, but it violates the forum rules of distro bashing.

Re: Interesting Distrowatch ranking update
It's not bashing if it is verifiable, IMHO.

The rules concerns the post, not the stuff behind it. We just don't want to see that kind of talk here.

That's a interesting comment in DW with the release of LMDE and the Mint Team being interested in how viable their OS would be if Ubuntu disappeared.

Re: Interesting Distrowatch ranking update
I used LMDE for years - I wanted to avoid the Ubuntu base, and I wanted a system that used much less memory and was more responsive on older hardware.Gordon Cooper wrote: ↑Fri Aug 31, 2018 6:32 pm That's a interesting comment in DW with the release of LMDE and the Mint Team being interested in how viable their OS would be if Ubuntu disappeared.
LMDE has always been a bit of a failsafe for Clem at Mint, but it's never got the attention (and QA, as not as many users to report bugs in the Betas) that Mint has. LMDE 3 has only just been released, but it's using the Stretch package base when Buster is only months away. Also, there's only a Cinnamon version released/supported, so the "less memory and more responsive on older hardware" is a thing of the past (you can install MATE or XFCE, but it's not the same as installing to a base system, you still get bits of Cinnamon left behind)
However, if you like Cinnamon and prefer to avoid Ubuntu, and you're not worried about the latest packages, it's worth checking out LMDE3 - although be aware that not all of the "closed" bugs on github have actually been fixed, so maybe wait a while.
