Dedoimedo back to MX Tools

#1 Post by Jerry3904 » Fri May 25, 2018 1:54 pm

<H/T to my son Ben, who spotted this and tweeted it!>

He retests, and likes it even more:

As always, there are some good thoughts for the future as well.

Very cool, it's rare to have a fan in Dedoimedo, and even rarer across releases.

I'm just glad the nvidia install worked. He's running the 340 legacy driver that we had a little trouble with earlier in the year.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

He also mentioned the MX Tools here: https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/lin ... tools.html
I always like when distro offer fresh, original value to users. Great examples include the Magic Scripts in TeenPup and the likes of MX Tools in MX Linux. These are great additions that really make a difference, and allow the distributions to stand apart.

Very nice. I learned a few things I didn't know.

The default proprietary nvidia driver install even worked on my wife's Macbook! Like Steve Jobs used to say, "it just works!"

I just have to find time to backup her home directory and email files, install MX-17 to her hard disk, and then migrate Apple mail to Thunderbird. (Actually, I still have to figure out the best way to do that last step and it might be simply re-downloading all emails from the pop3 server.) In the meantime, MX is still running live persistence from a USB SD card.

For those who do not master the English language; here is the translation into Spanish:
MX Tools - Un año después, la caja de herramientas mejoró
G Translate:
Para quienes no dominan el idioma inglés; acá está la traducción al español:
MX Tools - Un año después, la caja de herramientas mejoró
No todos ignoramos las mismas cosas.

I've been a Dedoimedo fan for years, really great, informative reviews and more.

You must remember his first review of MX 14, then. It wasn't good at all, but he made some good points that we took to heart.

He has a good point about visual consistency of the tools, I worked hard to make the tools I'm working on a bit consistent but I'm not that good with GUIs and design... I think we have an issue with the icons of the tools they are not pretty consistent.
