That's because sid is in essence a perennial alpha. :p ;)

That's said a bit tongue in cheek though; I used Semplice (sid-based) for 4+ years and liked it.

My experience of a4 so far is good.
*I notice the user name/pw fields in the installer seemed a bit narrow (height), a minor thing
There were many updated menu/MX Tools and panel icons etc. which look clear and informative (eg. codecs)
*What I have noticed is that my USB wifi dongle does not get detected reliably during boot, such that it does not power on (LED stays dark). Unplugging and re-plugging does not seem to help. No problem tethering with android phone, by comparison.
The new wifi icon does look a bit unusual with the reddish accent that hints at 'not working', even when it is..

Much work and bigger issues I'm sure for the development team. The wifi component is the only real concern here in testing.
Cheers

Thanks. We are addressing the installer issue but it hasn't made it into the repos yet.

FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Hi, I am new on the forum. I am presently running MX17a5 in live USB mode and just want to help you with testing. As far as I can see it feels good enough to install on this Asus EeePC 1000h netbook. I have used MX 14 on previous occasions with great success so I will check in with a report from time to time. Thank you.

Thank you. Certainly worthy of an install and runs quite nicely. It is an alpha, however and as you probably know there is no upgrade path to final. Having said that your testing on hardware will be appreciated.

We should close any threads for deprecated testing releases now that newer ones are out.

Yes, I have been mulling that over for some time. Only the current should be open. It shall be done.
