The md5sum seems incorrect

#1 Post by Charley »

Hi;
I downloaded the ISO for the April build of MX 16 x64 and the md5 and got an incorrect md5 on checking the download.
5 times. Used 'dd' to a USB stick and it wouldn't boot. That was the reason for multiple downloads.
What I expected was:
542072d053ddec3700d7d94af4e0cfbf MX-16_April_x64.iso
per the downloaded file;
but what I got was :
2d893813129e2421d45ee35ee35ee0a6 MX-16_April_x64.iso
It is likely my download, but any idea why? The number changes on every download.
Comcast cable through a LinkSys router running current Manjaro. I'm just going to go ahead and use the "official iso" and update and remaster since that download is correct. Then I can install the result on our church system which is the point of the exercise. I'm just wondering what is up with this.
Thanks;
Charley

I get the 5420... md5sum for what I downloaded a while ago.

Code: Select all

$ md5sum MX-16_April_x64.iso
542072d053ddec3700d7d94af4e0cfbf  MX-16_April_x64.iso

Not sure what's going on, I've seen these kind of things when a NIC was bad, but there might be something going on with the mirror, how about trying to download from another mirror? http://iso.mxrepo.com/Snapshots/

To make it quicker you can even use zsync you need to install zsync first and then run a command like this in the folder where you have an order ISO:

Code: Select all

zsync -i ISONAME http://iso.mxrepo.com/Snapshots/MX-16_April_x64.iso.zsync
Where ISONAME should be the name of the most recent ISO, you can use the one of the official release it saves you probably about 40% of time and download bandwidth, you save more with newer ISO.

Yup,

It is likely my download, but any idea why? The number changes on every download.

The downloads are bad. That is the purpose if md5, only to verify a correct download, it should always come out the same number.
Can you try a different mirror?

Is your ISP slow or erratic ?

This is ridiculous. My connection downloads at +2000 kB/s on average. Second mirror still gives incorrect md5sum. tried it with zsync and got the same bad result. I have installed the 'official iso' on my second hard drive and updated it, if I could have remastered (updated before install and added the programs I require for the church) I would be done by now. Used dd to write the usb stick so no persistence, I've had rotten luck with the gui "writers" in the past.
