I think it would be good to post updates and announcements at one single place (this forum, the website) and to point there with posts on social media platforms. Then people might see what's all around here.

That's probably the best, I did that couple of times, not sure why I posed on G+ directly for the last monthly snapshot announcement, maybe because it's better formatted than if you just link to a post. Also, Twitter communications are different than forum posts, 140 characters or less would not make a great post here.

Nothing wrong with using the space available on G+ but better cut off after some teasing text. ;)

I continue to be surprised by the response to our social media. Facebook in particular is pretty amazing these days. Not only does it now have almost 450 members, with 5-10 entering the group every day, but many of the more recent ones have been serious computer people: engineers (e.g., Microsoft), sysadmins, programmers, etc. As a result good technical answers are now being provided over there by other users, which takes pressure off the Forum.

Who knew?!

Even on G+, which is considered a ghost town by many, we have 223 followers. Facebook however is more engaging, not surprised we have so many.
