Hack - new font

#1 Post by bicyclist56 »

I read in the news about the new font.
This font is characterized by high distinguishability one character from another similar, suitable for use in the code editor.
On the site http://sourcefoundry.org/hack/#download you can download the font in three types: TrueType (.ttf), CFF (.otf) and Web Fonts (svg, eot, ttf, woff и woff2).
I took TrueType from the downloaded archive and put it in a folder /usr/share/fonts/truetype/Hack/. After that, the font can be seen in the font dialog, as Hack.

Very cool!
May I bump your thread to recomend a font I found today?
MX-14 on a Via Eden 1GHz CPU thin client, 3GB RAM, Via VX800 chipset, Via Chrome9 HC GPU, 32GB M.2 SSD;
btrfs with @ and @home subvolumes for MX-14;
added @antiX and @antiXhome subvolumes and copied antix 13.1 base into them, adjusting Grub from MX-14.

Waterfall (gwaterfall) is a handy tool I came across in Synaptic for viewing and comparing font faces quickly.

IMHO looks beautiful especially for window titles. For other places a bit too extravagant.

I installed Sony Sketch EF as a trial. It looks pretty good throughout.

I forgot to mention that it has some advantages to install a font in your home folder. Therefore create a folder ~/.fonts and place the font file .ttf in it. Then run the command as user

Code: Select all

fc-cache -vf
@richb: I'm using it for window titles with size 14, not bold.

I tired Hack, but for me it is only good for the terminal, where I'll be using it. For everything else I'm using Sans size 10.5. Special Sans types are too condensed for me.

On my 1366 x 768 laptop at 16 point it looks good for all fonts. Especially good for text in the panel.

I've always wondered about this...what are the advantages to putting it here instead of a /usr/share/fonts folder?
