I gave up 'tea leaf reading' quite a while back. Mepis 12 doesn't boot on my machine. It will boot in a VM.

Thanks for the link, Joany. I don't think I'd seen that particular article.

Note the multiple references to "installation". That was always a hallmark for MEPIS, and a point of pride for Warren. UEFI/GPT/Secure Boot ate his lunch. I think that more than anything else is the reason Warren threw in the towel.

... and the MEPIS tools also. Without question, Warren led the pack with an easy-to-install and easy-to-maintain Linux system for the masses.

With M11 and MX-14 to work with I'm definitely not missing anything in particular and gone a lot further than I'd expected in what I can now do. The advice and thoughts offered in the forum have been a huge difference between stumbling blindly and and learning heaps. I'll keep following other comments and try something else along the way eventually.

Firefox update hanging in MX-14 but otherwise OK

Same hanging problem here with Firefox update 29-1, on a couple of Toshiba laptops.

I usually update Firefox manually. kmathern put out a script (it's here on the forum) that will do the job for you. You want the rev 2 version.

I think I've only had the auto-update in Firefox work one time. When it tells me it needs to update Firefox I shut down FF and run the script.

With the other projects in the works, is the final release of M 12 dead in the water now?

The only person who knows the answer to this question with any certainty is Warren.

Here is how the Mods have decided to describe the situation on the Community website:
Our current development focuses on the exciting MX Linux, described below. Development of MEPIS itself is on indefinite hold, yet many users nonetheless run some form of MEPIS as their standard OS, and continue to find support and a friendly reception on the Community Forum.
