serial port to USB device needed

#1 Post by Siles » Thu Jan 09, 2014 7:37 pm

I have a MUST use medical program, Carelink. It allows me to transport data from my Blood Glucose Meter to my Endocrinologist. The connection is via a USB transmitter that attaches like a Flash Drive. The program is specifically written for OSX and Windows Vista and 7. It will not be ported to anything else because the FDA views the change of even one bit requires completely new testing and certification as a new program, read expensive. Even the change from a black and white screen to a color screen took over two years to be approved.

Here is the problem and request. Under M12 or any distro I can connect, download data, print charts, etc. I can not upload regardless of using VB or WINE. I get:

"In order to read device data, your computer needs the SerialPort package.
Serial Ports Powered by http://www.seriallo.com.
You will need to log in as an administrator on your computer.
Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 users may need to select 'Run as administrator' option when launching the browser.
Click 'Next' to install."

When I do this I get a fatal error message.
I am looking for a device/cable that will plug into my desktop serial port and connect to a flash drive device. Hopefully not too expensive as I don't even know if this will work.

BTW everything works on the desktop when it is booted into W7.

Any suggestions as what to use or a workaround will be greatly appreciates as this is the only program I use Windows for and I hate it.

TIA

Would it be https://serialio.com/ (with a lowercase "I"), instead of http://www.seriallo.com ?

And maybe this is what you're looking for: https://serialio.com/products/parts-and ... 32-adaptor

Thanks, I ordered one today. At $3 I can afford to experiment. Serialio wants $29.95 or theirs.
