Forgotten Root pasword

#1 Post by cax » Thu Jul 13, 2017 3:16 pm

Took too long vacation and have now forgotten my root password. Can it be restored without installing the system again? Home folder is not encrypted.

If you still know your user password you can do

sudo passwd root

Which shold ask for user password then new root password.

lenovo ThinkPad T530 - MX-17
lenovo s21e & 100s - antiX-17, MX17(live-usb)
FYI: mx "test" repo is not the same thing as debian testing repo.

Thanks Dolphin.

I didn't need it right now but I added it to my box of cool stuff in case i need it in the future.

Wouldn't be the first time I've forgotten a password or neglected to update my spreadsheet of passwords when I changed one.
