Two network connections and beep at boot

#1 Post by chzuck » Tue Aug 05, 2014 8:54 pm

I just installed MX 14.2 on a HP Pavilion laptop and have a couple of problems I don't know how to solve.
1. How to I delete the beep when it boots? I remember seeing that check box when I installed it, but don't know how to get back there to uncheck it.

2. Somehow, when I setup my wireless network I got two identical network connections showing on the sidebar. When I check my network setup, there is only one listed. How do I get rid of the double icon on the sidebar?

Right-click on one of the Icons and remove it. Someone else will have to answer you other question.
Yes, even I am dishonest. Not in many ways, but in some. Forty-one, I think it is.

Right-click the speaker icon > Open Mixer.

Some of my problem was I had the wrong version of MX-14. I had the PAE and needed non PAE. When installing it to my computer, I did see a box to uncheck for that beep. I went by it too fast and was not able to go back. My MX-14 on my IBM does not do that loud beep at boot up. There has got to be a way to turn it off. I now have the non-pae loaded and this time I only got one network icon.

There has got to be a way to turn it off.
I'm not sure I understand: did you try what I indicated above? Open the Mixer, grab the sliders for Beep and slide them all the way up, then all the way down. The speaker icon below the slide will turn dark grey with a little "x". On my various systems over the short lifetime of MX-14, that procedure has led to at most a quiet beep upon reboot.

What you say will work. But you always need to remember to do that before shutting down the computer. I am going to do another re-install as I am sure I saw a place to uncheck that during setup.

It sounds to me like you're talking about a checkbox while running the MX14 installer (minstall), but I don't recall such an option in the installer.

There might be a BIOS option for enabling/disabling the beep the case speaker makes right after power on or a restart.

When during startup does this beep that you're trying to silence occur?

Yes, it is before the selection is made to start MX14. I will check the BIOS.

I think it's GRUB beeping.
