Learning to like the new format...

#1 Post by Richard »

Thanks.
I was a bit puzzled when I found that the Active Topics link was gone, and others.
Found it in the Quick Links button, I think it is.
However, the more I use the new format, the more I find myself using the whole forum as intended
and getting a better overall view of the forum.

I should have mentioned that "Active Topics" and "Unanswered Posts" are now in Quick Links.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I tended to only read the Active Topics, but am finding that the New Posts at the top serves a similar function.
Removing it [the Active button], IMHO, it opens up the whole forum.
At first, I changed the bookmark to go directly to Active Topics, but find I never use it.
It is different, and also seems more responsive, 'course that may just be an effect of my local ISP. :)

I can vary the number of New posts shown. It is currently set at 8 and has served well. But with the increased Forum activity I might consider increasing it. I regularly use Quick LInks>Unread Posts to grab those not shown in the Index block.

@richb,
On my laptop screen, 8 is fine; 9 would still fit but more that that will be going off the first screen.
The novelty of the New Posts has been lost on me for a long time --just never really looked at them. :)
It certainly seems to make the forum quicker --one less button to click is good. :)

Honestly, the only part of New Posts I never look at is the right hand side about posters, etc.

A quick click on the Board Index quickly brings me back to the New Posts page.
I had considered asking why there was no easy way to get back to Active --this is handier, to my old eyes.

One would have to weigh the utility of more "New Posts" against having to scroll to see more. My middle mouse scroll wheel is responsive and effective. On a laptop with a touch pad scrolling is a bit different but I think most have an edge scroll or two finger scroll function. Any way I can just leave it as is. Increasing the number shown is not a major functional improvement.

It might be nice to have two columns of New Posts.
Don't know how attached you all are to the Active Posters and New Users list.

Two columns of New Posts is not possible with the Forum software.

Ah well, c'est la vie.

The new Forum software is fine.
Really an eye-opener for me.
Having the Board Index button always available
to return to New Posts and the index page is really nice.
Probably has existed all along, just off my radar.
Thanks.

NOTE: And the Active Topics is only 2 clicks away. :)
